okay so christmas eve is when my family celebrates christmas and this day is really important to me. my SM put up a sign up sheet for the holidays but put it up when i wasnt there so i couldnt get the days i wanted (thanksgiving and new years day) so i told my SM ill work christmas eve if i can be out by four. i literally begged him and reminded him 5 times, each time he said it was no issue because we’ll most likely close at 3 like we did last year. not only am i closing, but we’re open our full hours!!! so im working 12:30-9. i am SO upset. anyway my main question is can i get fired if i dont show up to that shift? or would it just be a write up
edit: im an SSV

Does your family tradition of celebrating Christmas on Christmas Eve have any specific cultural / religious roots? If so, that’s really all you need to force your manager’s hand. That’s one of the reasons that Christmas is volunteer only.

have you asked your SM about it yet? sometimes these things slip their minds even after reminders. when my SM made a mistake and forgot she said i could have a day off, she fixed it for me no problem.
try that first. if she says that there’s no other SSVs to close that night, ask your fellow SSVs if they’d be willing to switch you. who knows, they might have an extra day they need off too.

i havent yet, im hoping hes in tomorrow so i can talk to him, but hes never there even when hes scheduled lol. i really think it must be a mistake because theres no way we’re open until 8pm on christmas eve, so ill definitely talk to him first.

okay but this is happening at my store too and all of us baristas are rlly confused because our sm said originally we were gonna close at 5 on christmas and new years because like its always like that but then we find out that we’re closing at 8 on christmas eve and 9 on new years eve and its so frustrating
