My SM is sooo Annoying (Rant) (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by RexFlex420
This is a rant for me, so i hope others can relate or get a kick out of it. Ive worked at sbux for 2.5 years now and my store got a new SM about a year ago. Lately, Ive been so annoyed with my SM. She always finds something to complain about, whether its in a work groupchat or when im on the clock.

For example, she is obsessed with times. I understand DT times are important for business and customers but she just becones overbearing with it. Black Friday Morning for example, I opened on Drive thru bar (after having to close Thanksgiving day before 😠) with her on DTO. I spent the whole morning busting my ass to get drinks made, as always, but only to have her barking at me to go faster and faster. Like, Yes please, having your annoying voice rushing me will motivate my mood and abilities at these early hours. The most irritating part is that she was talking and giggling with the partner on window the whole time. BUT GOD FORBID that while im working on drinks, multi-tasking on 2-3 at a time, crack a joke with another barista only to get barked and clapped at "I DON'T WANT TO HEAR ANY TALKING WHILE YOU HAVE DRINKS".

Another example was on my previous shift working front register and oven while she is on DTO again. The morning was slower with steady food orders, but not insane. While im putting food orders in the oven, i start talking to the partner on CS. Only to have her her scold me over the headset "I NEED YOU TO FOCUS ON FOOD". Like, Im sorry if being able to connect with other partners is my main source of sanity during this crazy time. Its not like im slacking, im still doing my tasks.

It's just so condescending. I feel like if im working with her, i have to be quiet and stale. Cant be myself, crack a joke, or have fun with coworkers. I just wanna be like Joe Biden and say "Will you just shut up, man".

She clapped at you? Like “No 👏🏻 Talking 👏🏻 On 👏🏻 Bar 👏🏻“ type clapping? Because I would be so fuming mad over that.

SM sounds like a jerk and I have never ever understood the window time thing. Like I care, yeah, I don’t want to waste anyone’s time. But my paycheck is the same regardless you know?

It certainly made me quiet and grouchy for the rest of the time she was on DTO. Like Im not a dog😒. I feel the same. I understand that no one want to be in a long line forever and people have places to be. But when several cars get multiple hand crafted drinks, it can take some time
FoxyOnTheRun_ 3 points 2y ago
Exactly! like everyone will get their drinks when they get their drinks! we’re going as fast as we can! we don’t want you here longer than you need to be either.

But complaining about the wait when you made a conscious choice to get in a fifteen car deep line? that is all you buddy, like I had nothing to do with that decision lol

Straight facts. This is literally what goes through my head whenever i hear ranting about times. "20 sEcOnDs Or LeSs" bullshit is so annoying

Uh no your paycheck could be more if the DT line appears shorter which = more customers coming through. The company is running off of how many hours earned now (thanks pandemic!) so the more sales the more hours.

You are a better person than me. I've sat the pitcher down and walked off saying, "if you think you're faster, be my guest." Fuuuuck the rushing on bar.
RexFlex420 [OP] 1 points 2y ago
Lmao ive thought about that next time. Simply saying, "would you like to switch me somewhere else". All in an attempt not to deak with her complaining 😂

I understand how therapeutic ranting to Reddit can be for situations like this. Your SM sounds difficult and the only way you can change things is sitting down and having a heart to heart about how she is indifferent towards you. Is she only like this towards you specifically? Could you perhaps see it from a different perspective than you are now? If she is only getting on your case and refuses to change her demeanor, I would recommend speaking with PCC and filing incident reports if it bothers you as much as it seems. This will give a documentation of how your SM has treated you unfairly over time, instead of anecdotes. I’ve had to deal with shifts/ASMs similar to your SM and I know how overbearing it can be. Try to find practical solutions to dealing with her. Hope this helps!

As annoyingly as she can be, i would feel inappropriate filing a report on her. Ive vented with some other partners about it who also feel the same way. It may just be her personality. She is a good person and everything, just with annoying qualities. I usually close/ work later shifts so i don't work with her too often so its not an everyday thing, fortunately. Thank you for your input!

This very much sounds like my sm! My *favorite* thing is her new rule about the window person not allowed to have a headset EVER. And then she wonders why times are high meanwhile I literally have to stand at the window doing nothing but talk to customers the whole time.
Im a VERY friendly person but when I’m waiting on eight orders of egg bites two paninis and a grilled cheese even i run outta talking points

Meanwhile whoever is on bar ends up having to take the orders while the dto goes and gets all the food
RexFlex420 [OP] 2 points 2y ago
Thats ass. I like having a headset on window so that person can help DTO with orders. One good thing about covid is we're not encouraging to talk to customers all the time. Simply take payment, tell em itll be right up, and close it.

I break the “no moving from window” rule so often that my manager has been cutting my hours.

Also I’m not sure if I’m the only person that the rule applies to because it appears as if EVERYONE ELSE has a headset on when on window.....

Im honestly thinking that I’m told I’m not allowed to have a headset because my voice carries through the speaker and bounces back into my coworkers ears (you’re too loud you need to be quieter)

LUCKY!!!!! Mine wants me to keep it open at all times (which I’m ok with unless someone with no mask who is coughing with her kid in the passengers seat with a box of tissues{true story})

They also want us to constantly be making connections.
I understand making connections but even the customers get frustrated with me standing there just talking to them when their drink is sitting on the cold bar behind me And just needs to be poured.
RexFlex420 [OP] 2 points 2y ago
I always hated having to make constant connections. It gets exhausting at a point. I would always get happy whenever someone either didn't care to talk or was on their phone
ih8yogurt 2 points 2y ago
I’m great at making the connections! It’s just when stuff starts taking too long and they wonder why I’m still standing there that I get anxious about. Like can I please just pour the fucking drink? It doesn’t take that long!!
