New Hire Advice Severely Disorganized Store (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by tacodigital
Hey all, I was recently hired on and I have caught on pretty quickly but there's a few things that are immediately rubbing me wrong about my store.

First, our covid checks have been using an inner ear thermometer. When I did it the first time I was immediately uncomfortable because that seems so unsanitary. Granted yes, we are told to sanitize it before and after every use but...its still gross and risky? Plus my gf works in healthcare...so thats still a risk. Plus, the last few days it hasn't been working at all and we've been told that as long as we feel fine to just go ahead and sign the books...

Second, I have yet to be trained on bar, its been one and a half weeks. I was also told that my training would start the week of christmas....when it's busy and I'm going to be in the way. I just feel like I'm getting set up for failure.

And third, I had to Google how to find my schedule, and found out that through that that I work on days i have other obligations because no one called to verify if i was free.. I dont know anything about the sick policy, vacation. Benefits. I dont even know my rate of pay. The SM tells me to ask them when the store isn't so busy, but then they leave immedoately after that....so I never get to.

So...what should I do? I dont really want to quit so soon, plus I really need the money so I would have to wait until I get a new job anyways but like...is this typical? I feel like this is pretty shit tbh.

No this sounds so disorganized!! I’m sorry your dealing with that. You could transfer to a different store!

I was reading through my partner guide book thing and it said I can only transfer AFTER I finish training....there is a store closer to me that I might call. But I've been told that that SM and mine are besties so...I have a feeling that won't go well

Oh no 😓 I’m sure other people in this community will have great suggestions! Transferring was all I could think of

you should not have stepped one foot outside of BOH until all of this was explained. Go to your SMimmediatley tell and ask for a proper on boarding. Not when it isn’t busy - right then. You have rights.

Sorry, what is boh?

I think she's already setting up training for a new batista too. I think I'm just going to continue to apply to other jobs while 'working' there at this point.

First off I AM SORRY !

Secondly call PCC, tell them that you where not brought in and given all the information you would like and need.

Third, ask other baristas what you can do to help learn drinks.

Sorry for my ignorance but what is PCC?

Training is not on boarding. Training is learning how to do parts of the job. On boarding tells you the expectations and ways to be successful while doing said job. Plus it covers pay and vacation and 401k and sick leave and being late and dress code.

BOH is back of house ... the storeroom or where you take your breaks
