So i have this issue going on at work with my manager and i am going to talk to him tomorrow but I want to know if I should say anything or not.

Today we have a talk about how me and another employee have bad customer connection so he is cutting out hours and giving it to new hires because “they are better than us” but he does not understand how hard we work in the morning.

Both of us are openers and we are basically doing everything

List of what I do

\-6 batches of teas

\-5 batches of ice coffee

\-3 batches of coffees

\-a curtis of lemonade

\-restock milk, lids, syrups, espressos

\-get 4 rounds of ice for the bin

\-sanitizers

\-do bar

List of what other opener does

\-prepare whip creams

\-prepare caramel bottles

\-do batches of cake pops

\-batches of oatmeal and oatmeal toppings

\-organize food and restock food

\-take drive thru orders and warming at the same time

we work at a drive thru so it is not stop in the morning

I also want to know how long should a shift take to place the order and count? what do shifts do in the morning and how long do you guys take?

We try our best to take order and be welcoming while restocking and doing drinks or food but because it only two of us, i don’t think he understands how difficult it is to work with nonstop orders and car, while the shift is going whatever she is doing. She only comes out to take over breaks. With no support for a shift, i believe we are trying the best we can and we have to finish all the opening task in 30 mins.

Do you think it is fair for a manger to take away my hours based on our customer connection or is he in the right?

Am i in the wrong for disagreeing with him and should I have a talk with him?

you’re not wrong for disagreeing. they’ll find out quickly that without you two opening, things will
be missed- it’ll be chaotic and unmanageable. the store needs to run first- customer connections come second.

Unfortunately that’s a pretty standard open and every store I’ve been too. And I do that with just me (SSV) and one barista. However I do still think you should talk to him! Because it seems like you do work hard, and it’s not fair your hours are being cut. Talk to him and see what you can do to fix your connections if that truly is the issue. Also shifts have quite a but to do. Cash/safe count, temps, milk count, station assessment, order, count, pull, I’m sure I’m missing some too. However she shouldn’t be off the floor all day, and she really should wait until there are more baristas in to step off the floor. I tend to be off the floor for 2 hours on opening shifts. So overall yes, talk to him, about your SSV and your hours.
