My annoyance level when customers continue to pay it forward, yet decide not to tip the actual baristas making the drinks.😡

Not me scanning their app pretending to take payment so they don’t realize their things were paid for.
Never.

my absolute KINK is when a customer gets their order paid for, so they tip me the price they would’ve paid for their order. big brain customers right there

The only situation like this that REALLY bothered me was a woman who came in and gave me a gift card (I was on lobby) and inquired about whether police/military/fire come in. Yes, I said, as their schedules allow-- we do see them.
An hour or so later she was done with whatever meeting she had and came back to collect her card, and proceeded to be irritated with me when she asked how many I'd rung. I was truthful, and said "in the last hour none came through, the balance has not changed, but if you're ever back this way I'm happy to offer your courtesies to them if they come while you're here!".

I mean, I understand why you might be annoyed none came through while you were there, but she was actively coming after me for lying to her that they come in the store. It was all I could do to politely point out that (1) you were in the lobby and could see I didn't lie-- none came through in that specific timeframe. And (2) it's not like I have a magic emergency services Twitter or something where I can summon them to come in at your beck and call (short of faking an emergency, of course). There is a fire station four blocks west and a police station four blocks north, there is an air force base a few miles away, and we're a spot EMTs come through when they are "staging" and waiting for calls. Sometimes they are all there at once and hang out for an hour, sometimes we don't see them for days, sometimes their orders are in line and they get a call so we mark cups "to be made when" with a receipt, and let them know to come back when they can and we'll make the drinks fresh. I don't handle the timing of the emergencies they respond to nor the time they are "down" and can come by for a drink and a snack--

I am literally not God, so far as I know. I still don't know what to make of it, and hope she was just having a bad day rather than legitamitely not understanding the situation.

This deserves its own post. That is quite the encounter!

Once in a blue moon I write up a story, but honestly-- this is the kind of thing you could do a podcast with and not run out of material. Just share your own stories and call up random customer service people to have them share theirs.

It's a free patreon idea if anyone wants it, I guess. I've got too many other projects going on to pursue this, but if anyone has the personality, skills, and interest it might actually be interesting! You could even find people on reddit, but unlike a certain ~~buzzfeed~~ article generator you could actually talk to the people and edit it into an interesting series of stories for an episode!

literally just thought about this during the thanksgiving rush and it’s actually ridiculous that the last person drives away with their order and pays nothing. you could at least tip us for the $15 order we just made you.

Plus, it's not like there is a pandemic going on or anything, it's like every week another store has to close. My store close, 4 people out of 20 could work at a bear store, and then those workers had to self isolate later as well. Yet our manager states that we cannot technically make them wear a mask through the drive through. I am sorry my life is worth more than a $5 coffee.
