I’d recommend talking to you manager and seeing if you can take some extra time to learn things that you’re having trouble with. I don’t think you should put work in without getting paid for your time! Your time is valuable! If anything I know that ssv’s will put you in roles that you’re more comfortable with early on so you can get really confident in them. I’ve trained people and some needed extra help after and a good trainer or shift will be down to help!

I would say you should definitely talk to your barista trainer and manager about it so that they can help you in the future. The most important part of training is teaching someone in a way they can understand. There’s also resources on the iPad that you can use. Just don’t be afraid to ask for what you need.

Since this is your first job, please take my advice as someone who has been working for more than half their life. Don’t study at home. You won’t get paid for the time you spend studying, nor is there any sort of financial incentive to learning things more quickly. Starbucks has a very high learning curve, and no one really expects you to have a hang of things for at least three months.
The first step to being successful at this job is creating a healthy work / life balance. The sooner you can learn to leave work at work, the longer it will take for you to burn out.
