How do I get better at my job? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Expensive_Return2197
I've been working at Starbucks for a year and half now and I feel like I'm completely trash at my job. I would like to note that I have not worked for 8 months and I recently returned to work at a new store.

Before the pandemic, I was working at a pretty small and problematic store. The training that I received at this store was subpar to say the least -- I asked for more training, but never got it and my shifts were very sporadic so it was really difficult to retain anything that I was taught. Long story short, I'm at a new store with an amazing team, but I always feel like I'm the weak link. I often just feel lost due to the amount of time that I've been off and the lack of support from my previous store. I ask questions when I'm unsure of things, but because I'm not a green bean everyone just assumes that I know everything (despite telling them about my situation). I'm starting to feel really uneasy about coming to work, so I just want to improve and be useful. I hate not being able to be good at my job, PLEASE HELP!

Honestly, anything will help! Drinks are probably my biggest weakness, but as a whole I don't know ANYTHING -- Partially because I was never taught/given the opportunity. I just want to be a better team member!!

You can’t.

In the last 5- 6 years, Starbucks has aggressively pursued a policy of under- staffing their stores.

You’re set up to fail— what you’re experiencing now/ wanting to be better at your job, is precisely what they want— you to run yourself ragged out of loyalty to a corporation that could give two shits whether you succeed or fail.

Find a better job.
