I think I'm being targeted by management (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by dodonique
So recently a partner got fired for "breaking policy", although it's debatable if they really did. But another partner was caught selling cups using their discount and nothing happened to them. The difference is that the first partner is hispanic and the second partner is white. Our SM is a trump supporter, as is the second partner. All of my coworkers who I am close to were up in arms, and all of us were tweeting (without mentioning our place of work obviously) about how this was racist. That same day, one shift lead, who was the reason that led to coworker 1's firing, liked a tweet where I said that I found it funny how white women are allowed to break policy when a manager supports trump. The next day I had off so I didn't find out if that tweet was shared. Then on my day off, my DM liked an old tweet where I mentioned how frustrating it was that coworkers don't acknowledge my gender identity. I immediately blocked him but I am frustrated. Me and the DM have already had an issue because he didn't want me to enforce mask wearing and I said that Partner Resources told me I could and he had my SM explain that our district wasn't doing that. I definitely feel like I'm being stalked and singled out, despite not being the only one who tweeted about the situation. Today is the first day I see my manager since all this and I'm hella stressed.

Clarification: I know that it was them who liked the tweets because their usernames were their real names. They were obviously not following me. Also, I've never mentioned where I work on Twitter once because I have an onlyfans linked to the account and I don't want some weirdo to find me.

Have you asked for a transfer? Its better just to leave the situation rather than to get reprimanded or fired for expressing your thoughts. You also have the option of calling partner resources and telling them how you feel singled out at your store. Managers and dms always seem to runaway with their tails between their legs when you tell them you're gonna call partner resources. Lol. 😬

Stay thirsty my friends

I second this. I’d call partner resources and also put pressure on your DM for a transfer from your district.

I was going to ask for one in the new year because I'm hoping to move into a new place and I want to find a store close to wherever I move. I definitely plan on calling partner resources but the last time I did, I was told we don't listen to their rules

Your social media is public, that doesn’t mean it’s private from Starbucks management. On the contrary, you can be fired for making a post that violates our media guidelines. If you feel there is active discrimination at your store or in the district, call ethics and compliance. That is what they are there for.

None of my posts violate the guidelines, I am smart enough to know better. The last time someone in my store did that, they were fired.

So is it against policy to sell cups using our discount?

Yes

I don't know why anyone would think they can do that.

At the end of the day we don't know why the first employee was let go. Was it possible that they were on a PIP? Did they have prior infractions? Also we don't know whether the white employee actually got reprimanded, do we?

Have you been targeted yet?

Discussing politics in the workplace can be pretty toxic. Hopefully this doesn't end up hurting you.

The first employee had no prior infractions and was blindsided after coming back from quarantine for 2 weeks. The white employee did not get reprimanded and bragged about not getting reprimanded. The DM stalking through my social media seems pretty targeted when it's not happening to anyone else.
