I can’t speak for US corporate stores. But where I’m at the “newer” ones are given to stores with really old mastrenas. They’re also used for parts to fix old mastrenas to save money. One of the tubes broke at my stores which got water trapped under the screen (foggy and then I think just completely broke it) and they just plopped on a “new” top piece from an old mastrena. I know it was an old piece because it had the guest espresso/2nd bean stickers on it over the decaf buttons. And those stickers were really worn down and not the same ones our old buttons had.

Our were taken to a warehouse, stripped for parts, and scrapped.
