Remade an Iced Green Tea Peach Lemonade for Mallorie THREE times yesterday morning. She is a regular, always gets the same drink. Of course it was peak so when she said, "it just isn't right", I remade it for her, no problem. After the third time, I left bar and walked around the counter to get a better understanding of why the drink wasn't right, what flavor in the 3 flavors of that drink she wanted most of (tea, peach or lemonade?), and she said, "You know, it just tastes like water".
HELLO, lightbulb!
I took a LARGE step back and quickly handed her her fourth drink (third remake) and somehow got her out of the lobby but dang. PEOPLE, IF YOU CANNOT TASTE YOUR BEVERAGE, YOU MAY BE ILL.
How marvelous to be the first place people are made aware of their symptoms -- not dangerous at all! Also, when a customer takes her mask off in order to taste the remake over and over again and tell you it tastes like water while it dawns on you that COVID may be being spread around the air like Christmas cheer. We love to see it, don't we?!!! Third place is REALLY AWESOME.

i have a regular who constantly demands remakes like this too. she gets 12 pumps of 2 syrups and she SWEARS she can taste that it’s 1 less pump or 1 more pump. bitch i was the one who made it literally 5 mins before you walked in, on GOD i did the right amount of pumps. but that’s ok you know better than me i guess.

Okay, this actually makes me feel better. Maybe she is just finicky and not experiencing a symptom of COVID.
bootrick36 points2y ago
Nah, your regular isn't a Karen who orders remakes often on a whim. Your regular probably has COVID. I hope you told them your suspicions.
Unipanther3685 points2y ago
No, tell her to get tested for covid and not come back until she tests negative. If she isn't usually super picky and she had you remake it THREE times, there's clearly a problem. Not only that, but she didn't say it tasted too heavy on lemonade, or too light on tea, etc. She said it tastes like water -- clearly an issue when there are three separate flavors in the drink.
Next time she comes in, refuse to let her in the lobby or even serve her unless she has been tested. She may not like it, but it's for the health and safety of everyone else there, everyone they have had contact with, and so forth.

I'm with you on this. The "it tastes like water" thing was tell-tale to me. Just like that fricking tik tok of the girl whose coffee tasted like water and then she tested positive. Why are people not more aware of their own selves?
Unipanther3683 points2y ago
Idk :/
This is just my opinion/theory, butI'm pretty sure that even though we're all still aware of covid, a lot of people aren't as careful as they used to be since we've had to do this so long. I don't think people think about this specific symptom very much either. :/

Is seems that there are some people where that’s part of their Starbucks experience...
Dazzling-Creme-85156 points2y ago
12 PUMPS?!!?!??!? Tf.
InfernalAngelblades3 points2y ago
Had a regular who did 15 pumps of white mocha in a venti hot. Yeah, first time he smiled was terrifying. That man has never seen a dentist.

So sad
Awkwardpandas3 points2y ago
I know I’m late, but three days ago I made a 20 pump venti iced coffee. It was about a quarter way under the bottom line. Fucking nasty

We have a regular that always orders this. I fear for her health..

My first day had a guy that refused to wear a mask due to “medical reasons” and, being in the south, all we could do was tell him to stand outside and we would bring his drink out to him. After I brought it out, he came back inside, leaned over the counter, ducking his head BEHIND THE PROTECTIVE VISOR, all to tell me he would like his drink remade. Irish cream cold brew he’d stuck a straw in. When I asked “what seems to be the issue with the drink?” He replied “it doesn’t taste how it usually does. it just tastes like coffee.”
Now let’s think back to maybe a few seconds ago when you read “he had stuck a straw in his drink”. Well, buddy, cold brew is FUCKING BLACK COFFEE AT THE BOTTOM THATS WHY THEY GIVE YOU THE NITRO LID BECAUSE ITS MEANT TO BE SIPPED YOU IDIOT!
Long story short we remade it, surprise surprise, one straw later it still tastes like coffee, so he orders a Pumpkin cold brew. Best part about irritating customers is the second he left we were just laughing it off.

A Chinese restaurant near me, barricaded the entire front of their restaurant. The only holes in their barricade were a tiny slit to slide your credit card into the reader they would hold up to it, and a completely enclosed box that had doors on both sides that they would put the food in, like a bank depository. They were realistic about what people are like lol

I love what the Chinese restaurants have been doing during covid.

Oh gawd, the heads around the plexiglass. Can they Just Not???
imaraisin9 points2y ago
Now introducing the chopper partition. Stick anything behind it, it gets chopped off!
Unipanther3681 points2y ago
Sounds like a great idea -- we could make a fortune! What do you say, 50/50 partners?
imaraisin1 points2y ago
Moscow Mitch says we won’t be liable, right?
chubbysilhouette932 points2y ago
How about people reaching under the plexi for their drinks? Jesus. JUST TELL US THAT YOU ARE PICKING UP YOUR MOBILE ORDER!
PaulAttacks1 points2y ago
But Irish cold brew has syrup on the bottom

Almost the exact thing happened to me yesterday! Lady wanted green tea lemonade and said it was wrong so we remade it. I watched the bar person make it correctly with lemonade and hand it back to her. “No lemonade” so I take it back and watch her remake it again. “No lemonade. This happens every time!” So we remake it again with light ice and extra lemonade. She didn’t even taste test it that time and drove off with a huff :/
julieCivil [OP]8 points2y ago
What do you think was the deal? Picky customer or loss of taste and smell?
Gorbon115 points2y ago
😵 I didn’t even think about the loss of taste or smell thingy! Luckily I wash hands and sanitize the whole DT area after dealing with handed back drinks. Because there is no way I’m letting her get 4 venti teas for the price of 1. She did complain that every time she comes to my store it never tastes right compared to her home starbucks. I like to think my store are pretty knowledgeable on beverage standard and quality and am usually disappointed when I cover at other stores and see how they aren’t upholding the same standards :/
[deleted]15 points2y ago
not covid but we do have a lady that orders a venti mocha frap with toffee nut and 6 pumps of frap roast and no whip. gets to the window and every time it’s just not right. “it’s too runny” bc you’re putting extra liquids in it if you want it less runny you need extra ice. “no if you made it right it would be right.” whatever. “it’s too bitter” yeah because you’re putting extra frap roast in it. “no you didn’t make it right.” whatever. closed for covid and it happened to be a week there was a happy hour. guess who we get a call from, pissed bc she couldn’t come and order her 4 drinks during happy hour?

i’m so sorry that one of the partners got a potentially fatal illness and it inconvenienced you, margaret.
