Do I have to personally call stores for a transfer? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Deuvinn
Hey all, I’m moving to the Tacoma area in February (so in about a month and a half) and am looking to transfer stores. How do transfers work in terms of who contacts the prospective stores? What should I expect and should I start looking for a store now?

How else is the other store supposed to know you want to transfer there? You should talk to the store manager to let them know you want to transfer there, and then that manager will follow up with a conversation with your manager.

I would start calling now. The SM at the other store is starting to think about hiring a new barista for February now. If they know your interested in transferring they won't have to do those job interviews.

I wasn’t certain if there was some kind of transfer request form that gets filed that can be sent to the RM or DM as a pre-requisite or something. I’ll start calling around.

If you search around on the hub there is a transfer form, but in my experience calling stores and talking to your manager about it is the norm.

When I transferred, I looked for stores in the area I was going to transfer to and called each store’s manager. I explained how long I was going to be there, how long I was working at my old store, my partner number, my old manager’s name and number. This was all when the pandemic had just started, so things may be different now.

Question? Did you keep you rate of pay when you transferred? I’m looking to go from Oregon to Montana, minimum wage is significantly lower, and really don’t want to lose the wage I make now.

Sadly no. I went from $14 to $9 when I transferred.

The way my manager phrased it made me think I got to keep my current rate but all ask for sure again
