rough transition from licensed to corporate (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by cassxcx
hello everyone!! so i have worked at 3 licensed stores, and just recently moved to a corporate store. things are going to be different between the two, that's expected. store positions are a lot less flexible for me now and it's been hard for my ADHD. im constantly yelled at for walking away from a position. i also suffer with OCD, which also makes things much more difficult because my brain will tell me that i absolutely NEED to do something first (ex: stock cups) bc that's what makes me feel better. but then i get yelled at for not doing other tasks first. i get it, i will get used to the differences. however, after mentioning my adhd and ocd to my supervisors, i was kinda hit with a "you need to get over it" lol. my coworkers have had 0 patience with me, and talk down to me like im an incompetent baby. is there anyone here that had/has a similar issue? even if you didnt switch stores or anything, has OCD/ADHD affected your work, and if so, how? (sorry for the rant)

ADHD sufferer here.

I find making lists helps me.
It helps me to stick to a routine and if I start to get flustered or as I call it “chaotic” I just look at it and it helps me focus on the next task that needs done.

Unfortunately I can’t help much with the OCD issue, your coworkers are just honestly assholes.

I hear you on this! I no longer work at the bux, but I got bitched at for not “staying planted” on DTR during morning peak because I would walk to the oven area and get the food when they were backed up. I also got bitched at for leaving bar once to go get cups when the CS was taking trash to the dumpster. I hate to say it but it will not get better. This job is awful for people with ADHD

Not especially helpful with the ADHD but definitely with the OCD. First chance I got at my licensed store I would bag the pastries that were opened. If we had an opened carton of holiday scones or cake pops to keep them fresh and definitely got questioned on it a lot.

I normally try to divert my OCD by focusing on a specific aspect of the task at hand. For example the caramel drizzle on my macchiato. Not always the most helpful definitely struggle with it and with things not being perfect or following a set schedule of when things should happen and how since I’m terrible with things not going to plan either a schedule that’s been set already that I’ve had time to mentally accept and adapt to or within a shift. I’m trying to handle that better though and be less flustered by things not going as planned since adaptability is important in most job settings.

I wish you the best of luck
