Green bean taking notes :D (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by coffeeracc
4 day old green bean here! I just finished my hot bar training, so when I got home I took notes so I had a better grasp of what every hot bar drink required. I know there’s one drink where you put the espresso shot on top, which drink is that? I really want to add it to my notes so I don’t forget (like I just did)

Welcome to the Family, Green Bean 💚

I'm going to give you the bases to all Starbucks drinks, as practically all of them are based on it. S is the amount of seconds that the milk should be aerated (the paper tearing/spitting sound):

• ***Latte*** - **{3S}** (Espresso + Dairy/Dairy Alt + Flavor, if any): Starbucks lattes are espresso beverages, usually with a syrup and always followed by dairy or non dairy substitute. Standard is always 2% milk! Any kind of Standard or Specialty Lattes are just variations of this drink. Some examples include Raspberry lattes (2% milk + espresso + raspberry syrup) and Caramel Brulee lattes (2% milk + espresso + caramel brulee syrup + topped with whip and caramel brulee topping)

• ***Cappuccino*** - **{6-8S}** : Literally a latte, but you make it ✨fluffy✨ by adding way more oxygen in the dairy/dairy alt

• ***Macchiato*** - **{3S}** : a lattee, but upside down. Mill snd syrup goes in first, then the shots get put on top 😌

• ***Espresso*** : its just.. the straight shots. It can come on ice, or even with like cappuccino foam (de Pana or something like that) on top of it

• ***Frappuccino*** : This is cold bar. Basically its dairy/dairy alt, ice, whatever flavors you desire, coffee (if its coffee based; if it doesn't have coffee, you leave it out), and base (magical syrup that combines dairy and ice.. it comes in either cream or coffee flavor)

• ***Tea*** : these babies are either poured into a shaker with the right teas and flavors, sweetener of necessary, and ice, or like actual tea bags that you put in hot water (pretty self explanatory)

• ***Cold Brew*** : literally drinkable crack.. like.. it has more caffeine than a monster energy drink. Its poured out of a keg with ice and sometimes people want condensed sweetened milk with it (we call it vanilla sweet cream). Theres also ***Nitro Cold Brew***, it DOESNT GET ICE. It's the same coffee, but the keg uses magic and sticks nitrogen into it to make it.. smooth.. yeah I know sounds weird but you gotta try it

Extra tips

Refreshers are just teas with usually water or lemonade shaken in it, alongside the correct inclusion with it. For example, a Strawberry Acai Refresher is Strawberry Acai tea (comes in a magical box) + water +freeze dried strawberries + ice. They can get it with lemonade instead of water. ALSO, if the drink is with coconut milk instead if lemonade or water, its then called whatever color it is. Strawberry Acai with coconut milk is the **Pink Drink**.

Dont wipe like.. anything electrical with a wet rag, like the coffee brewers.. you will become paralyzed.

Before using a new whip cream canister, shake it upside down and horizontal, and just spray a little into a sink to let out some gas. From there, only half way press the handle to apply whip cream.. otherwise too light is sad, too hard will blow up your drink

Cold bar lids suck.. especially dom lids.. no It doesnt get easier, you just gotta pray that Siren will grace you with magical lid snapping skills

Customers suck sometimes.. it's ok.

Dont forget about your free weekly coffee markouts, as well as getting a food and drink when you work. Food DOES.INCLUDE paninis, not just like the lame.breakfast stuff

Oh more tips

**Frappuccinos are blended ONLY ONE 1**.. dont forget this. Always 1

Remember the condensed milk I talked about, aka Vanilla Sweet Cream? Yeah some people love it when its like.. super light and fluffy, and sits on top of the drink. You pour the sweet cream into a special blender (ask your trainer) to **150 ml**, and **only blend on 4. If you blend on 1, it will explode.. seriously**

I didnt talked about brewer coffee.. but.. its when coffee is grinded and hot water is added. **6 oz of coffee to 2 tablespoons of grounded coffee** ALWAYS. Also make sure you're using the correct grind consistency depending on what you're doing. The coffee brewers are metal filters.. so when you grind coffee, make sure the grind nob is on metal filter.

Pour Overs. These are important but hard to explain. Ask your trainer. Basically it's a hand crafted, single cup, poured coffee. You grind just enough coffee for one cup, out it in a weird filter, and then pour in hot water.

Love how much **k n a w l e d g e** you dropped. But wait you blend on 4?! Not 3?! Or just for the extra cloudy fluffiness? But also sometimes I make drinks wrong on purpose. Like sometimes I put caramel in the caramel apple spice 🙃

But love this info. Good luck at your next store. Don’t worry too much, just be sassy if they can’t handle you

Also, thank you for the award 🥺🥺

Thank you, and actually yeah. Now technically 3 works, but I find that 4 works so much better as an option, since it not only makes the VSCF lighter, but like.. theres more and it wont completely sink into the dronk/shove the ice down and possibly overflow the drink.

At first I thought it as the only one to fo this, but so far different stores also use 4.. but again it is technically 3.

It reminds me of the Strawberry creme frappuccino. I like, and make them the "old way" of strawberry puree to the invisibilenline, with 2% to bottom line, them into blender with ice and creme base, blended on 1 and then a little bit of puree in the bottom before pouring on top. I know people say not to do that, and instead use more strawberry and add classic sweetener

This was exactly what I needed thank you so much 😭

OKAY SO, as Emu pointed out, Technically Vanilla Sweet Cream Cold Foam, or any Cold Foam (yes.. sadly there are other kinds), are supposed to be blended on 3. However, a lot of baristas, including me, use #4 [Dry Cold Foam] because the extra aeration I believe makes the drink just.. hold better.. and also always guarantees you can fill up a cup with VSCCF if they ask for extra

Lol. Sorry. Just that my store is like super by the book ( except when it comes to yourself, my SM and SSVs are all about we being more important than... say coffee) so whenever. I do stuff from other stores... it scares them lol. But I will try this tomorrow

I remember the day I snapped a cup with a dome lid and nearly cried.

I like that you added not to wipe the coffee coffee brewers with a wet rag because no one told me that and I definitely received a ⚡️zap⚡️
coffeeracc [OP] 3 points 2y ago
Maybe we’ll turn into the ⚡️flash⚡️

That’s our only hope

That’s the caramel machiatto! (It also gets one less pump then usual of vanilla). Good luck with the next few weeks, you’ve got this!☺️
coffeeracc [OP] 3 points 2y ago
You are amazing 😭thank you so so so much!!
coffeeracc [OP] 3 points 2y ago
also any helpful tips for remembering the pumps/ ways to remember how long to steam the milk and anything that might be useful in my notes would be greatly appreciated 🥺
acxerman 15 points 2y ago
my two favourite tricks are
1. the number of shots in a drink can be remembered by counting the syllables in a size (tall-1, grande/venti-2, iced venti-3)
2. for frappuccinos, chips get drips! only drinks with java chips get chocolate drizzle
coffeeracc [OP] 6 points 2y ago
THIS TRICK ! G e n i u s!! Thank you so much 🥺🥺🥺
Serienmae 3 points 2y ago
For most drinks 1-3 seconds of frothing is standard and for cappuccinos I typically count to 8 Mississippi to make sure I've got enough foam
starfishgobam 2 points 2y ago
I was trained to steam until 100 degree for a cap, hope this helps!

You’re amazing!! Thank you so much 😭😭🥰
