I came into work this morning and was told by my coworkers that we’re not allowed to wear our hair in ponytails anymore? Their hair was medium length, and mine reaches essentially my waistband. Is there a rule that it has to be in a bun/braid? My hair is pretty fragile and the more I do to it, the more likely it’ll break/fall out and I’d rather not have to do more than a ponytail. Of course, I will if I have to, but if the manager is just enforcing this rule to be petty.. (she does have a history of making us do things just to tell us to do things for ex. a plexiglass between the two espresso machines as if we stay in one position all shift).

It just has to be out of your face. However, a braid will be a lot less damaging to your hair than a ponytail, so maybe don’t go full force with that argument

When I first started here a year ago, I tried to braid my hair for my shifts and it started to fall out with obvious bends where I braided it :( I have started to put it in a bun for my last two shifts though (and it fell down twice the first time but eh) , so I’m just waiting to see if this is any better !

So, yes and no. I think she’s getting at that it could fall into drinks or something, but honestly she’s being a bit petty. I’d just carefully double it up, like ponytail but don’t pull it all through

Maybe it depends on your region?

I’ve never heard of that. The $1 only says that “hair must be secured away from the face.”

Pony tails are fine, you just need a hair tie or something to keep it out of your face and not fall into customer's food.
