Tips on promoting to SSV (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by ehrle100
Hi all, I have been working at Starbucks for about a year and a half and I am trying to find ways to stand out. I can be put in every position and I am known for having a positive attitude. I work a lot as a borrowed partner and sometimes work half of my hours at other stores to help them out. I have expressed an interest to my manager about ways to promote a couple months ago, but nothing has happened yet. He gave me ways to develop into a trainer and I feel like I have improved in those areas. I am really trying to find ways to stand out as a partner in hopes that it will lead to a promotion. Thanks!

Don’t be afraid to coach partners when the opportunities present themselves, ask your shifts if you can learn how to do tasks they normally handle, like the count and pull or daily orders. Ask your manager if you can have to opportunity to learn to do tips, that shows you are competent with accurate money distribution. Hope this helps!

Ps. I am a shift and a six year partner, who has assisted with the promotion of two other shifts

Talk to your SM or the SSVs in your store and ask them what they think your strengths are, and what they'd need to see you do for them want to see you promote.

Every store is a little bit different, but generally they want to see that you've mastered the role of barista, that you make good customer connections, that you can coach other baristas, and that you take initiative to fix problems.
