When your store closes because of a positive test, is it made public or does your SM make up lies about why you’re closed?(self.starbucksbaristas)

We had this happen and right when we found out the person tested positive, we posted signs and shut down the store immediately. Then the conversation went “I’m sorry we’re going through testing so we need to close down”. Coming back to the store many of the regulars asked what happened and the manager told him that we took the precaution and we’re on quarantine but the person came back negative. This wasn’t correct but she was the only person that tested positive.

Really glad this process happened quickly. We shut down the store, posted signs, threw all the food away and other items, cleaned everything, and we were out in two hours.

Every time a store around us has closed I've been told that we can't tell customers why, even though it's obvious. My store hasn't closed since I started working here (even when we technically should have) so I'm not sure what my SM would do if it was us.

I just play dumb and say that I dunno why we were closed, I wasn't here. Lol. Customers obviously know, they're being nosey, just order your coffee and wear a mask please. Not even partners get to know who tested positive (they shouldn't be told) due to HIPPA. They just need to know if they gotta stay home or not.

It seemed very obvious why we were closed & everyone was so uncomfortable & unsure of what to say & I feel this absolutely should have been a conversation prior to reopening. I don't know specifically how our SM responded but I do know there was no communication, a lot of questions, & bumbling responses from baristas & shifts.

We’ve closed twice, once at the beginning of the pandemic, and the second time right before Thanksgiving because we had two partners test positive. We told customers about it and reassured them that the partners who tested positive didn’t come into work sick (which they didn’t) and everyone that had worked with them was self-isolating. People have been very understanding about it, thankfully.

I had people asking while I had to cover at another tire while mine was closed, we settled on telling them that we closed for “safety reasons”. Usually we just leave it at that
