To the people saying things will get better... uh no they won’t.

That’s my feeling about it. Day one when the manager told me about the cup fund, my thought was that’s some corporate fuckery right there. Minimum wage employees are giving up their money to help other minimum wage employees and corporate gets to take credit.

Hang in there, it's a real shit show right now, things will get better. Deep breathing can help, take 3 deep breaths when in the weeds. You got this.

Thank you! I’m working on my yoga teacher training right now too, so breath work really has helped!

Speaking from personal experience of wanting to quit a job even before I ever arrive for my shift (I was an AS at Ross for a time) -

I do recommend you start looking for other work.

Granted, work is work but it shouldn't be a place you dread going to every day. You spend a majority of your day there, for the health of your sanity you should be able to enjoy your job at least to a degree where you really don't mind going.

On that note, your teammates and your manager really should have some patience for you; you're new to this job, after all. They are seasoned and may not recall how difficult of a time a new employee may have. Still doesn't excuse it though. I'm a green bean myself and if it weren't for how supportive and helpful my team has been, I would have lost my shit a week into starting.

I really do hope that it gets easier for you, perhaps this is just the beginning and with everything going on (COVID, short staffing, etc) it's making the job much more stressful than it needs to be.

Keep your head up!! I wish you the very best.

PLEASE call the ethics and compliance hotline about the COVID thing. Absolutely unacceptable and completely dangerous. It's a third party and completely anonymous. Sbux can't access the call logs.

I will. Thank you!

I'll be honest these kind of jobs aren't for everybody, and I don't mean that in a bad way or anything. They're pretty stressful and you either have to be someone who will make excuses for customers bad behavior or just not give a shit about it and be like well fuck you too then.

Your Manager sounds iffy though. They shouldn't be getting that irritated like that.

Agreed. I’m a sensitive person, and while I can shrug a lot of things off, too much all at once and I break down. I’ve been a student full time for the last few years too. Years of sedentary study have left me physically out of shape for this work. The last couple of days have gone more smoothly, but I am looking for other jobs.

Best of luck in your job search! And who knows you may end up enjoying Sbux too. My coworkers save it for me, best people I've ever worked with.

Some advice for now, might be hard at first but squat to get milks out of low fridges instead of bending your back. Your back will thank you plus its exercise! Lol

My other job is cooking and I say it all the time but the only reason I picked up everything other than the POS system fast is because of my kitchen background which is speed and movement.

Oh it can get worse,

back in my day I got cut pretty bad from a crazy person trying to steal (1 pound coffee bean bags) that didn’t have any beans in them

the AM had me clean a two week old dead rat out from behind the sandwich fridge. The thing was twice the size of my hand

My store didn’t have a restroom but every time I took a shift at another store, my goodness the humanity. Have you ever seen what happened when a toilet breaks in a Starbucks?

Making coffee is fun and the Starbucks side of it gets easier after a while but it’s not worth training you soul for.

The best Xmas you can give your self this year is a promotion to customer 🥳

That sounds awful all the way around! Definitely not worth selling ones soul for!
