and when they remove their mask to try and HEAR better like-
ecaterina1204 [OP]11 points2y ago
It happens all the time😐
Loose-Thoughts9 points2y ago
but when partners do it.. yikes
goldenharrie9 points2y ago
my shift always does it it’s legit so annoying :/ he never has his mask over his nose too smh
ChemicalBarnacle4 points2y ago
I used to have a manager who never wore the mask over her nose, but I was too afraid to say anything about it, because I didn’t want to be in trouble
SoFetchBetch3 points2y ago
This is infuriating. I don’t work at Starbucks but I respect the hell out of everyone who has been going to work during this pandemic and dealing with these absolute dirt clods....
I seriously want a mask that has a mouth and nose outline on it. Maybe with an exclamation point on the nose so I can glare at people. Would love to come glare at your manager so you don’t have to!
tkp142 points2y ago
I have now seen people pull their mask down to read something on their phone. Holy crap! It wasn’t over your eyes, you total dickwad!
N3UROTOXIN1 points2y ago
I mean i know it makes no sense, but i turn down the radio in the car to see better...
jdmstig1 points2y ago
Having had a set up that you could feel in your chest minutes after you turn it off I totally get your logic lol.
lahbeebs43 points2y ago
If I had £1 for every time this happened, I’d be able to quit
Mayachees4 points2y ago
Yes!
snowflakenecklace38 points2y ago
fav is when a customer is pulling down their mask to speak, so i move further behind the glass, so they lean around it, so i step further back, so they lean forward more... like bro take the hint.
nervousextrovert11 points2y ago
Tell them to back up. I did it all the time lmao
hannahvh909 points2y ago
I love to use the line “oh, you can put that back up, I’m a professional at lip reading through a mask” in my nicest voice - then they just are so fucking uncomfortable, what else can they do but put it back on? Lmao
Elysianfieldflower2 points2y ago
I like that. I might have to try that.
colonade1714 points2y ago
We even put up a sign that says "for everyone's safety please stay behind glass and keep your mask on while talking". Doesn't make much difference.
QueenBlazed_Donut23 points2y ago
Your first mistake was assuming that customers read anything in front of them
LookMaNoPride2 points2y ago
Try being a developer. You could tell people the exact thing they need to do to fix the problem - that can’t be done by computers, or the systems don’t integrate - and they will take a screenshot of it and send it to you, “hey, I got his error.” “Huh... did you try reading it?” “No. It’s an error.” The unsaid part is, “I always just press the OK button without knowing what it does or what I’m agreeing to.”
We had an error page on our homegrown internal website. Most companies have something funny or cute for when you see the error page. We had that up less than a day before we were told to take it down and get serious. (Lot’s of satellite locations with crappy internet.) so we put together an error page that would solve about 95% of your issues... if you bothered to read it. I still get mad thinking about how a user would screenshot that error page, send it to field support, then field support - who is supposed to be there so the developers don’t spend their time on dumb shit - would forward it on to us with a note, “hey, so-and-so got this error.” Multiple, multiple times I had to walk away before answering (usually the same person many times). “If you read the text we provide, it will tell you what went wrong and most of the time, it even gives you an idea about how to get around it.”
QueenBlazed_Donut1 points2y ago
My dad was an IT director for a loooooong time. He had many stories of ID10T errors lol! It’s amazing how people will almost quite literally demand that other people spoon feed everything to them. It really makes you wonder how they’re able to keep a job or just get through life in general.
LookMaNoPride1 points2y ago
Man, that is so true. The first place I worked thought that development was a job that anyone could do. They eventually were given a rude awakening, but before that happened, they hired a bunch of people that Sprint laid off. I guess management assumed that because it was a phone company, they were tech-ish? I dunno. Most of the people washed out in a couple weeks, saying they couldn’t do it, but some held on for dear life. And they couldn’t do the job. But they stayed. I can’t tell you how many times I told this one specific lady exactly how to do something. With steps written out. And she would act like she didn’t understand until someone would do it for her. She was fairly good looking, so I caught onto her game pretty quick and called her on her bullshit.
I just can’t imagine doing that. Me being in that scenario is nightmare fuel. How do people go through their career not only not performing, but also not trying to better themselves? That kind of thing blows my mind. I just don’t understand it.
And it’s not like that was an isolated incident. There was one guy who would yawn every time I was explaining something to him. I felt like he deliberately made things as hard as possible for me. I remember one time he asked me what a GROUP BY in SQL was for. It’s a fairly simple concept, but as soon as I started talking, his eyes glazed over. Took several conversations before he understood why one would ever need to aggregate data.
Sorry, I’m rambling. Never encourage a developer to tell you how dumb people are. *WE’VE GOT STORIES, MAN!*
benlouyoung11 points2y ago
90% of the time the mask isn’t the reason I can’t hear someone. It’s the same people who’d be quiet normally and they use a mask as an excuse to why I can’t hear them, not them mumbling their order
JMarBrwn8 points2y ago
If I see someone reach around it for a straw/stopper, I make it a point to put it out of reach or hide it while they’re watching me. I’ve been so tempted to slap so many wrists as they reach over lol
[deleted]6 points2y ago
Our lobby is closed and we have some chairs blocking off entrance to the lobby(to show it was closed, but a table there for mobile orders), but we had a lady push through the chairs, come through the lobby, and start speaking to us without a mask lmaoo
ecaterina1204 [OP]3 points2y ago
Do we work at the same store?😁
[deleted]2 points2y ago
I'm not sure, what store do you work at? 👀
wuxtrywuxtry5 points2y ago
Had a lady pull her mask down to talk to me over the counter. Like. Come on. Plus I have to see all your missing and rotted teeth
ecaterina1204 [OP]3 points2y ago
People do that all the time. It’s awful!!!
jacksawyer754 points2y ago
I actually do this as a customer. But only my ear haha. Not my mouth. I can’t hear properly!!!😂😂😂
ftsktln3 points2y ago
We have a weird gap in the end of ours at register and anytime someone is like peeking around it I just casually back away lol
stfufannin2 points1y ago
This is me because I can’t hear shit behind that glass lol
ava_14052 points2y ago
So several time the cashier asks me to like come around the plexiglass, but I literally hate doing it!!
theethiopiankook2 points2y ago
It’s instinct
foulhoney1 points1y ago
Someone did this today (put their whole head on the counter) and my intrusive thought that I didn’t act on was to play wack-a-customer
jose_rodri51 points2y ago
Hey I did that once I didn't take my mask off though
bryceofswadia-16 points2y ago
I have to look around it half the time because people talk so damn quiet. I honestly don’t see the point of it. Masks are effective, so as long as a business is enforcing mask policies, the plexiglass is an expensive and unnecessary hassle.
FunSizeChun-8 points2y ago
I feel the same way honestly, no judgement or disrespect towards anyone who disagrees, but why bother with plexiglass if masks work just fine? The combination of both makes it impossible to communicate with customers and it’s really frustrating.
laaragaarcia3 points2y ago
Masks aren’t 100% effective, especially home made/thin cloth and don’t get me started on neck gaiters. Plus, like everyone else mentioned, A LOT of people either wear masks incorrectly or pull them down to talk, and it only takes one single droplet spat out at you through a lowered mask to get you sick.
FunSizeChun0 points2y ago
Ok yeah that makes sense, I just get really frustrated when there’s so many things making it hard to understand my customers, and my customers mumble their orders on top of that
