Venti in a trenta cup rant with extra mask deniers (self.starbucksbaristas)

I was having a good day, great day in fact. Went into work to open today and got myself $95 in tips from the people who wanted their large tips distributed to people working at that moment. Work was busy, but manageable with the amount of people scheduled.

Then I got off work and was grabbing my food item and a drink to go home with. As I was waiting, a family of three walks in. Son and dad without a mask. They are asked for their masks, dad has one to put on, son sits down in our seating area that says it is unavailable and mum has to tell him to go get his mask from the car after I tell him that the seating is unavailable.

Then the mom and dad are talking about how masks are not effective and that they don't understand why they are being forced to wear it with people touching their masks and not wearing them correctly (while keeping their noses uncovered) so why bother sort of mentality. Other customer goes over, boasting that he never puts his on until we tell him to. And how 99% of people survive, the virus not killing that many people. They pow wow for less than a minute and getting louder about masks being ineffective.

I don't know what they said that triggered it, but I was shaking and so mad. I'm an internal person and it was just too much. The months of people thinking they know better than doctors, being afraid of bringing it home, and the general stress of the holidays. I asked outloud one of my Co workers if I'd get in trouble if I said something to them while off the clock. They then got a bit quieter about it.

My usual thing when I get off work is to call my fiancé and chat about our days since he's in another state. Bless his fucking heart of gold for listening to me basically yelling into my car console about people in general being assholes and fucking idiots about this basic thing we all have to do now because they are too selfish to care or look past their fucking noses at the big picture.

Day was great, people were nice for the most part, and only a few people were irritating, which I could brush off. Then that happened and I'm so done with today. I need the income and need the ASU program to get myself in a better place, but I am so done with these upper middle class assholes thinking they know better because they saw something taken out of context on the television or something on Facebook.

Oh and I get to do it all over again tomorrow. Yay me!

God I’m so sorry you had to deal with that! And props to you for saying something!!

Honestly this (plus social distancing) was why my district closed cafe completely (DT and mobile order grab and go at the door only). My god was it SO much better than any holiday because of that

I wish my district would close cafe again. But nope! My store still gets to do Uber eats, is the store they chose to try out curbside, and won't do grab and go at the door. I think our DM said something about making the stores look inviting and nice again to give our customers some normalization when he had us set up all our tables, but put the signs on them that you can't sit down.

God that’s so frustrating!! I’m so glad my store doesn’t do Uber eats. A few in my district do and working at those stores is hell. How exactly does curb side work?? My store is testing the outside DT ordering but that’s it. My store has the tables set up with the signs for the same reason. To give customers a sense of normality?? Don’t DMs realize that just makes it harder for us since we then have to constantly tell people they can’t sit at the tables

So on the app, they tap they are here and what number spot they are in. Our in store iPad dings and we run it out to them. But it only dings if we have the curbside app open at all times. It also automaticslly turns on and off based on sunrise and sunset times. The problem it creates is people parking the spot, ordering, and then right away saying they are here. Or people ordering, saying they are here, and not even at the store yet.

God that sounds awful!! That’s like giving mobile order Karens more power. I truly hope that doesn’t roll out company wide

Our tables have signs on them but our shifts let them sit down anyway.

I don't get it. We keep breaking records for case counts and deaths. How do people act like that? did they skip science class in school? are the locked into partisan fact-free media?

I really want to understand the mentality that let's people think acting like that is ok.
