One piece of advice- set up your transfer as far in advance as possible, don’t wait till the last minute. I’m not sure if the time frame but I think you need to give at least 30 days notice of your intent to transfer unless it’s an emergency situation. I would do some research on stores that may be in the area if there is more than one- if you find one that seems like a good fit you can put it on your form and make the process smoother for everyone. Technically the dm is supposed to place you but if you make it easy for them you are more likely to get to a store where you want to be

Ask for your transfer two months out, and do the work. While the standard is 30 days and you give an area into which your DM places you, that rarely happens, and it's even less likely to happen now. Call around to the stores where you want to move, let them know you're trying to transfer, when you'll be transferring, and ask if they have any openings. If they do, get the SM's info and the DM's, if possible, or leave your contact info with the SSV. Extra helpful if you can get your SM's or DM's email to leave with whoever you speak to! I'm transferring cross-country in a couple of days, and this is how I managed it even with a pretty crappy DM and no SM! It makes it easier on your management and you'll feel more secure having spoken to the SM you'll be working with to ensure your spot :)
Edit: you'll also need to fill out some paperwork with your SM or DM!
