Advice for future Shift? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Kyde_Drakes
So I’m supposed to be training for a shift position but there is literally zero time to do so. I have basically two weeks, max, to learn what I need to learn. We have been so busy and already working the store with a skeleton crew, so trying to get any training in is like pulling teeth. Anyone have any advice?

Prepare to do more work than what you're getting paid for. A lot of pressure is put on SSVs. And just take it day by day, things will be stressful but it isn't the end of the world. Remember baristas are kind of fragile and don't really understand all the things that you have to do or get done. If you get an angry customer just give them what they want and get them out of the store or out of your line. It's way easier than trying to argue. Also Remember to breathe and take all your breaks even if you think there isn't time too. This company doesn't deserve any free labor from you

Yes, TAKE YOUR BREAKS! I always miss them, and don’t wish that on anybody! Otherwise, having a good team def helps: I hope you have some solid fellow SSVs to help you learn the ropes. For me, I made a master list of all tasks that I have to get done/what times or days they happen to get done on, just to keep me on track.
