First order I took after being out for 3 weeks with COVID was a real welcome back. (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by clumsycalico
6:30am. First day back after 3 weeks off.

“Can I get a trenta pink drink with extra strawberries? I want extra caffeine.”

“Um......the caffeine is not in the strawberries. It’s in the juice. So do you want extra juice?”

What’s the dumbest thing a customer said to you guys today?

Edit: oh my god y’all these comments are SENDING ME. This made my day!!
sorrysmithy 215 points 2y ago
Someone complained that their hot chocolate didn’t taste like it had coffee in it....

and also someone asked for a latte with no espresso.... when we told them that it was literally just milk they said “no it’s not”... we couldn’t figure out what they wanted so they left lol
boxinghamster16 54 points 2y ago
Maybe they meant decaf? Idk thats a new one for me.
sharkoss 44 points 2y ago
We have a regular that asks for a grande iced caramel macchiato, light ice, in a venti cup. When we ask her if she wants room in the cup or extra milk, she tells us to “just put extra of the coffee” ¿?¿?
zastrugi 62 points 2y ago
this happened to me once at 7am when i had no filter and it took five minutes of me explaining that the coffee is metered out by ounce and we cannot put more coffee but we can add a shot.

a TON of people think that our espresso beverages use like... brewed coffee? so we can just add more??? no one knows what espresso is. it gives me an aneurysm every time.
TheBlueSuperNova 20 points 2y ago
I mean technically long shots are a way to do that, but I doubt the customer knew of that way.
hecticpride 7 points 2y ago
Tbh sometimes ive offered to top off or add a bit of drip to a drink. They usually like the sound of that and quit fussing 😂
G37_is_numberletter 4 points 2y ago
Sounds like bible belter nonsense.
haifonly 19 points 2y ago
Yo people used to do this to us all the time. Thinking we have to make the cup look full and add more product without them having to pay for more. Not happening.
[deleted] 9 points 2y ago
[deleted]
haifonly 3 points 2y ago
Lmao what is wrong with people.

I know some people add other like protein shakes and such to their coffee and want a larger cup to put it in but don't expect to try to rip people off. Just dumb.
mercipourle-venin 2 points 2y ago
I order this but with extra ice, mainly because I hate how much milk is in a regular latte lol. But i order 2 shots iced with a splash of milk in a venti cup. Just give her extra ice 🤷🏼‍♀️
baristamathematician 5 points 2y ago
Give her long shots lol. She won’t ask for that again!
ih8yogurt 3 points 2y ago
Add three shots and charge her lol
hellopie7 28 points 2y ago
A Latte with no espresso I believe is just steamed milk.
Soulsingin 13 points 2y ago
I know people who like that. I’ve heard it called a steamer. It is mostly milk, but you still get the syrup and foam, so there is more to it than just milk. I know a lot people who get it for their kids too. To each their own I guess. The hot chocolate thing is hilarious. 🤣🤣🤣
drinkliquidclocks 19 points 2y ago
Yes steamers are a thing. But the customer was ordering a plain latte and apparently thought it would be more than steamed milk I guess... People love to order things without knowing what they're talking about
clumsycalico [OP] 5 points 2y ago
God that used to be me. I used to hate Starbucks and I always ordered cappuccinos and then put like 10 sugar packets in to make it taste okay. I literally did not realize that I should have just been ordering a vanilla latte until I started working here. I have absolutely no idea why I did that for so long, but I normally drink just black coffee and I hate the Pike roast so whenever I had to go there (it was the best/easiest place to study on campus) I just ordered a cappuccino because I thought that just meant espresso and milk lmao
drinkliquidclocks 6 points 2y ago
Haha nothing wrong with not understanding the menu, it's just super frustrating when the customer won't believe you. I have to be here every damn day, of course I know the menu more than the customer T-T
sorrysmithy 9 points 2y ago
i know customers who like to order steamers, but this customer specifically didn’t want any syrup either so it would literally just be milk aha
philosopher_cat_lady 2 points 2y ago
My guess is that they meant a misto
stringtherapy321 1 points 2y ago
Steamer probably?
sorrysmithy 4 points 2y ago
they said no syrup so it wouldn’t be a steamer. i think everyone on both sides were confused 😂
stringtherapy321 3 points 2y ago
Oh wow. Yep - that’s definitely not quite right......... haha
Educational_Love7618 177 points 2y ago
“How can I pay for the person behind me in the drive thru?”

“Oh no worries! We can tell you the total after we take their order and let you know at the window”

“But I’d like to know it now so I can decide if I’d like to pay it forward or not”

“Ummm they’re behind you so we don’t know what they’d like until you PULL FORWARD”

Y’all, I can’t make this stuff up
thehairqueen 14 points 2y ago
Haha that’s one of those things where no matter how you word it you make then sound like a idiot 🤣
FelicityCecilia 6 points 2y ago
Ugh paying it forward is the dumbest thing at starbs. Kyle driving his Tesla doesnt need that help, but all the broke employees could use some tips. Especially when you get people who pay it forward often, but always refuse to tip????
Keyndoriel 111 points 2y ago
No foam cappuccino. Gets downright offended when we tell him thats a latte. Also someone complained their americano was watery and said no Starbucks ever gets it right.
KJ2998SJ 40 points 2y ago
I also had someone order a cappuccino no foam. I just rang it through because I didn't feel like dying on that hill.
clumsycalico [OP] 11 points 2y ago
I mean, to be fair, I think our standard Americanos are a little watery and my go-to for years is an Americano with an extra shot lol. But yeah lady, if “no Starbucks ever gets it right” that means you just don’t like the recipe and you should order something else??? Jesus
bryceofswadia 8 points 2y ago
Lol with those people, you’re better off just remaking it and letting it go. They are too stupid to understand any explanation.
littlebeebec 3 points 2y ago
No foam caps or extra wet caps are hilarious... like, extra wet cappuccino.... so you want a latte?
[deleted] 1 points 2y ago

perfecktenschlog 75 points 2y ago
had a customer order a salted caramel and i said “yeah for sure a salted caramel mocha” and she goes no i don’t want mocha. so i said ok we can do a toffee nut latte w whip and all the toppings and she’s like “n o. i want a salted caramel latte what is so hard abt that. other coffee stands can do it for me” i said well some other stands have a syrup for salted caramel but we do it with mocha and toffee nut and she goes “NO. I DONT WANT MOCHA. ugh just forget it” and drives away
MariasGalactic 46 points 2y ago
Literally got screamed and cussed at because I made someone a salted caramel mocha, they said no, they wanted a salted caramel coffee, I asked if they wanted the toffee nut or caramel flavor and then the verbal attack started.
FelicityCecilia 4 points 2y ago
Im so sorry that happened. Wish we could find these people and throw mocha into their cars
Astraterris 34 points 2y ago
This reminded me of a guy who wanted a toasted white hot chocolate and I said we were out of the toasted but we have regular white mocha if he wants that and he said he didn’t want a mocha and I said yeah that’s just what the sauce is called but we can make you a white hot chocolate it just won’t be toasted and he said I want the toasted white hot chocolate and I said I know we just don’t have the toasted white mocha sauce right now but we have the regular white mocha and he just kept getting pissed and saying he didn’t want a mocha and I was like if you would just let me explain but he drove off in a huff

Edit: sorry I know that’s hard to read but I’m very stream of consciousness tonight 😬
[deleted] 1 points 2y ago
[deleted]
ventiwhybother1111 -23 points 2y ago
I’m pretty sure toasted white mocha is just white mocha with toffee nut syrup.
Astraterris 15 points 2y ago
If it was, then we would just make them that way instead of having a specialty syrup. Like how we make the salted caramel mocha.
ventiwhybother1111 -15 points 2y ago
I don’t remember a speciality syrup for salted caramel mocha. We made it for a customer year round. But without the topping. Pretty sure that was also mocha and toffee nut.
hailvy 12 points 2y ago
When people ask this I just start making a caramel latte with salt topping cuz I’m tired of the abuse
Pnutt7 12 points 2y ago
I always just give them toffee nut, because it’s a headache to explain how we don’t actually have a salted caramel sauce
clumsycalico [OP] 5 points 2y ago
Same here. I do not want any of these people to find out it’s toffee nut because half of them will throw a fit about it.
mrsnataliehooper 1 points 2y ago
Yeah had this happen to me as well. Lady ordered a salted caramel mocha, tasted it, and then got sngry when there was mocha in it. She asked if the mocha had coffee and i tried to explain that the drink she ordered got chocolate (mocha) and toffee nut. She demanded she didnt want mocha so i remade her a toffenut latte with the salted caramel toppings. 🤷🏼‍♀️
spongepants19 72 points 2y ago
Egg bites open face. We were like it’s not a sandwich what do you mean..they didn’t know either
hellopie7 14 points 2y ago
Did they mean.... cut them in half? Or like... upside down? Lmao
spongepants19 18 points 2y ago
The customer didn’t actually know what they wanted either 😂 they were just used to always saying that because they normally get a bacon Gouda lol
heartashley 7 points 2y ago
This is actually a little cute, not gonna lie 😂
mr-potatohead_ 65 points 2y ago
Today someone asked for a latte, light on the latte... I asked if he wanted an americano with some steamed milk so it wouldn't be as much milk. Turns out he wanted an extra shot and extra room. Guess that makes sense but thats a weird way to order it.. like just tell me what you want so I can make it right and PLEASE don't make me guess what you mean 🤦🏼‍♀️
invisiblekid56 31 points 2y ago
man wanted a cappuccino and didn’t know what it was called
mr-potatohead_ 3 points 2y ago
He didn't want foam though 😂😂😭😭😭
zydr8te 56 points 2y ago
Venti vanillla latte with calorie free milk

- we have non fat milk, but I'm sorry we don't have calorie free

My other Starbucks does. They keep it just for me

- I'm very sorry but all of our dairy and non dairy milks do have a few calories as our website

(interrupting and shouting) I need my calorie free milk! Im NOT getting fat because you tricked me with creamy CALORIES

An Americano. She wanted an Americano
DraconidZinnia 28 points 2y ago
I've never heard someone say calorie free milk before and I feel like if I heard that come out of a customer's mouth I would die on the spot
zydr8te 24 points 2y ago
Creamy calories was the name for whole milk for months
420catloveredm 6 points 2y ago
I miss working at a drive thru and turning off the headset to laugh at stupid shit like this.
cou_ntrycrock 14 points 2y ago
so the calorie free milk was ~water~
zydr8te 3 points 2y ago
And the other location kept it for her special
clumsycalico [OP] 9 points 2y ago
Out of these 145 comments, this one is my favorite. I hate it and it’s been living in my head rent free since you posted lmao
zydr8te 4 points 2y ago
She came in the store once but lived there for years
ahw34 6 points 2y ago
Whenever customers asked “what’s your lowest calorie drink” I always responded “water”. Sorry but it’s true. You didn’t really think it was a skinny vanilla latte did you?!
HippieinBlack 56 points 2y ago
Someone once took back their pumpkin spice latte and said it taste like coffee...🤦🏿‍♀️🤷🏿‍♀️
kobo15 50 points 2y ago
One time someone told me a caramel Frappuccino tasted like black coffee and I was like “..... please drink this Pike Place and tell me that again”
littleedge 15 points 2y ago
Of all the beverages, the PSL is the least coffee-like.
closingshiftbarista 52 points 2y ago
Oh! Another one!

Customer- "I want my iced tea sweetened, but no sugar."

Me- "No problem!" *lists all the alternative sweetners*

C- "No, I don't want that, I don't like those."

Me- "Oh. Well, we could make it with no sweetners--"

C- "BUT I WANT IT TO TASTE SWEET"

Me- "Sir, it can't taste sweet if you don't let me put any sweetner in it."

C- "UGH! YOU'RE BEING SO DIFFICULT! JUST GIVE ME WATER!"
gavinatoristhatyou 48 points 2y ago
someone mobile ordered a frap with no ice. when they came to get it they said yea this is what i wanted. syrup and milk.
hellopie7 39 points 2y ago
Syrup and milk... but blended. *points finger guns and winks*
TheOnesLeftBehind 15 points 2y ago
And extra space that they get mad about. Or want filled totally with whip.
clumsycalico [OP] 3 points 2y ago
We have a regular that orders a kid’s cocoa in a venti cup, filled up with whipped cream (with like 4 other stupid drinks that piss me off too, but I’ve been off for a while and forget what the rest is)
TheOnesLeftBehind 1 points 2y ago
Tbh I’d charge that as a kids cocoa and a short cup of heavy cream if I had my way about it because that’s just stupid
gavinatoristhatyou 3 points 2y ago
oh shit i forgot whip it was just foamy syrup milk cause i was assuming they didn’t mean no ice and would make me remake
TheOnesLeftBehind 3 points 2y ago
lol well their loss imo. Our whip tastes great
shosh_c 48 points 2y ago
Yesterday someone asked me if they could have a cappuccino with no milk. They ended up getting a doppio.
Harajunkie 43 points 2y ago
Iced water blended with 3 sugars.

EDIT:: For context, the person that ordered this drink was clearly homeless and in any other circumstance I would've questioned the request. I'm mainly complaining about it here because this made a mess of the cold bar and blender during peak 🙃🙃🙃

EDIT EDIT:: There also some customers who are diabetic and can experience dangerously low sugar levels and they can quickly get it under control if they're given water and sugar. So while it may it be an inconvenience to us it can quite literally save someone's life.
verygayverydumb 21 points 2y ago
this comment took at least a year off my life
clumsycalico [OP] 3 points 2y ago
I have been trying to put into words how I feel about that comment, and this is it.
Razza_ma_tazza 6 points 2y ago
Water with 8 pumps of peppermint (this is also against the rules at my Starbucks idk about yall)
feisty314 2 points 2y ago
If someone wants to add syrup (or inclusions or whatever) to a water, the correct way to charge them is to ring up a custom tea. So custom tea - no tea - water - ice - 8 peppermint.

Or just don't put up with that nonsense, which frankly, I prefer.
Razza_ma_tazza 1 points 2y ago
I mean we were told to not do it at all for “health and sanitation reasons”
_book_queen 41 points 2y ago
Somebody came in asking for the mango dragonfruit drink on our secret menu. I said I’m sorry, I’m not sure what drink you’re talking about. She said “it’s on your secret menu” and then I asked her if she meant the regular mango dragonfruit refresher on our menu and she insisted that it was on our “secret menu”. I then had to explain to her that there is no sponsored starbucks “secret menu” and that if she had a recipe I was more than happy to make it for her but I had no idea which one she was talking about since people make drinks up all the time online. She then said “nobody has EVER told me that before” and then drove off :)
DraconidZinnia 6 points 2y ago
Bruh 😂😭😭
[deleted] 38 points 2y ago
[deleted]
KaleSalad201 42 points 2y ago
The other Starbucks definitely said “yes” and just gave him decaf shots (that’s what my store does)
[deleted] 19 points 2y ago
Same, we always clarify if they want it decaf or cream based but if they do still want it decaf we sub the frap roast with decaf shots
[deleted] 7 points 2y ago
[deleted]
clumsycalico [OP] 4 points 2y ago
I have literally never understood the customers who think the people who work somewhere don’t know about their job. Why on EARTH would someone go into a business and argue about what the product is!!!
clumsycalico [OP] 4 points 2y ago
It’s super interesting reading all these comments that there’s just no way to win in these situations. You can explain, and half the people are too belligerently stupid to get it, or you can just give them something without telling them but then they go wreak havoc on other locations that don’t know what the fuck they’re talking about. I hate people lmao
KaleSalad201 2 points 2y ago
There is no winning with difficult customers ever. Literally had a customer scream at me tonight because I said it was against policy to split her frap into two different cups and that if she wanted I could give her a cup on the side or she could order two smalls bUt ThE OtHEr StARbCks dOeS iT. I told her I would get in trouble and can’t afford to lose this job and her response was to scream at me about how horrible of a person I am 🙃
bryceofswadia 3 points 2y ago
I died on the hill of explaining the decaf shots thing to people and they always get so confused so I gave up and just ask if they want decaf coffee or if they just want a cream frap.
[deleted] 3 points 2y ago
[deleted]
bryceofswadia 3 points 2y ago
lol fair
merlin_my_cat 37 points 2y ago
No foam americano
Ilona-Grace 31 points 2y ago
I used to have a guy that would order this, he used to make us scrape the bubbles and any semblance of crema off of his americano
merlin_my_cat 18 points 2y ago
I can tell you I did not put that much effort into the drink
Ilona-Grace 16 points 2y ago
The way our store was laid out you could see what partners were doing behind the bar and he would throw a hissy fit if he saw a hint of a bubble... was easier just to do it and avoid the drama
merlin_my_cat 6 points 2y ago
Mine was in drive thru. So they just took it and left.
clumsycalico [OP] 5 points 2y ago
We have an old couple that come through the drive through all the time with a super complicated order, and they’ll hold up the line while they taste their drinks and decide if they’re right or not.
thehairqueen 5 points 2y ago
We have someone who orders a americano add water.
Or a grande pike in a grande cup lol
[deleted] 5 points 2y ago

proletarithot 30 points 2y ago
Customer: can I get uhh passion iced tea

Me: yeah a passion tango—

Customer: NO not tango, passion

Me: *dying internally* ok sure

Customer: the order is WRONG on the screen, NO TANGO!

Me: ma’am the full name of the tea is literally passion tango

Customer: oh. Sorry.
I_love_you_drugs 6 points 2y ago
My favorite is when I have this interaction and they say “oh. Sorry.” But their tone is saying “fuck you I hate you”
Pies-in-the-Skies 5 points 2y ago
I’ve had that conversation multiple times. No one ever apologized to me over it, though. Lol
proletarithot 3 points 2y ago
I am a bit of a master at getting customers to apologize for dumb shit like this. Like someone commented below, their “I’m sorry” is usually code for “fuck you” but hey they apologized 🤗
bryceofswadia 2 points 2y ago
this happens to me every fucking time and it’s so irritating
mrsnataliehooper 30 points 2y ago
I had a lady complain that there wasnt enough chocolate in her hot chocolate. It was a short one and got 2 pumps? I also had someone complaim that i put mocha in her salted caramel mocha.
dgvelling 16 points 2y ago
Well the hot chocolate recipe has changed hasn’t it like no vanilla anymore right? Maybe that was the taste that they felt like was missing
mrsnataliehooper 6 points 2y ago
Possible, but she complained that it wasnt chocolatey enough so idk. 🤷🏼‍♀️
clumsycalico [OP] 1 points 2y ago
I think the vanilla thing is a good theory!!! People don’t generally have developed enough palettes to tell the difference like that, she probably didn’t know there was ever vanilla in it and now it’s just “not the same” so it must be the chocolate. I don’t know how long ago they took out the vanilla though, I’m relatively new here
bryandzoo 28 points 2y ago
I had someone order a mango dragon fruit lemonade with no lemonade but add coconut milk and when I said “oh that’s actually the dragon drink we have” they argued with me saying that I didn’t know how to do my job and it wasn’t a dragon drink they wanted. LOL
closingshiftbarista 27 points 2y ago
"No I don't want an iced coffee, I want you to take a grande cold cup, fill it with ice, and put Pike in it."
bearyconfessional 19 points 2y ago
I do this sometimes with the blonde roast if I don't want cold brew cause our IC is awful.
__my_man__ 4 points 2y ago
I would do this with blonde roast too. But I would just order a cup of ice and poor it in myself
mrsnataliehooper 3 points 2y ago
Fair i suppose
bitter-barista 6 points 2y ago
I had a regular that would get this all the time, but as a grande pike in a venti cup of ice. Tbh, we tried it once and it was better than our IC...
Competencies 22 points 2y ago
Someone ordered a “lat-tea” she couldn’t tell me if she wanted a tea or coffee drink and wasn’t sure when I told her what a latte is. she just kept saying it over and over again slower and louder.
Real_Lumen 11 points 2y ago
I would’ve suggested a London Fog to them, seems to fit both categories.
faytyagami 22 points 2y ago
today, someone ordered extra foam and then complained that the drink was mostly foam. a week ago, someone ordered a cappuccino through mobile. they picked it up, got home, then called (i’m a shift so i answered the phone) and complained that the drink was ALL foam.....
[deleted] 20 points 2y ago

goomy-toons 19 points 2y ago
Came thru drive asking for 4 hot chocolates, “no milk no mocha just hot chocolate”, with steamed soy on the side.

“So you want 4 cups of just mocha sauce, with steamed milk on the side to pour in?”

“No I want just the hot chocolate, no mocha”

“Our hot chocolate is just our chocolate mocha sauce and milk. If you don’t want the mocha then it would just be a steamed milk”

“Can’t you just give me the hot chocolate, and steamed soy on the side?”

Apparently she thought mocha sauce was coffee
Big_PapaPrometheus42 1 points 2y ago
A lot of people think mocha is coffee because there are so many mocha flavored things that have a coffee taste.
iStealSharpies 19 points 2y ago
I’ve been asked for a grande latte with no milk. They were very upset when I handed them 2 shots of espresso in a grande cup.
rl3470 19 points 2y ago
someone asked for a latte with light milk....
pinkpancakes101 18 points 2y ago
lady said “can i have a peach mango tea lemonade?”
me: okay just to clarify you want a peach green tea lemonade and add mango dragonfruit to it?
lady: nooo i want a peach mango tea lemonade
me: okay no worries i was just double checking
lady: arent all starbucks the same? cause i order this at other locations you sound wrong

this b**ch acting as if i don’t work here and know what i’m talking about you sound DUMB for saying i’m wrong but 🥴🥴🥴🥴whateverrrr she left 😂
trashmouthfuck 11 points 2y ago
its because of the partners who just assume instead of clarifying so then people think what theyre ordering is a drink already. thats why every partner should clarify the order instead of assuming
chuhai-drinker 5 points 2y ago
I understand why people assume though. It's to avoid interactions like this
Assiqtaq 17 points 2y ago
Not said, but... I had a customer walk up to the till today holding her mask in front of her face. Just like, holding it there.
mrsnataliehooper 7 points 2y ago
People do this all the time when i hand them a mask. Like put. It. ON.
alcohoseok 17 points 2y ago
not the dumbest thing i’ve heard but my mom (hates coffee) came in and got a SCM frap but no mocha bc she thought mocha itself was coffee and i literally had to give her a cup w a pump of it to tell her it’s basically chocolate and we can take “that coffee taste” out of nearly everything.
bryceofswadia 3 points 2y ago
tbf that’s an easy misconception because we call our chocolate coffee drinks “mocha” and our chocolate non-coffee drinks “chocolate” (i.e. Mocha Cookie Crumble vs Choc Cookie Crumble, Hot Chocolate vs Mocha, etc.)
alcohoseok 2 points 2y ago
nah i agree bc when i was younger i used to think the same and thought i was so cool for drinking smth w mocha in it, but i just showed her our container of mocha and told her to think of it like chocolate syrup.
1partwitch 16 points 2y ago
I worked at an airport Starbucks for four years, and this one stood out:

Customer (older lady, fake long blonde hair, Louis Vuitton luggage, very distraught and pacing in line) “I just got off a 20 hour flight. Do you have any food?”

Me: yes we have these pastries here and these breakfast items

Customer: I need something with calories, what has the most calories? Actually let me get an iced caramel macchiato with breve

Coworker: we could even add whipped cream

Customer: will that add calories?

*i hand her the drink

Customer: what am I supposed to do? Shake it? You guys don’t mix these? (Shakes it vigorously before I can respond and splashes herself through the dome lid)
scammoun 1 points 2y ago
This one made me lol
nctneozone 16 points 2y ago
Customer: “I want a strawberries and creme in the biggest size”

Me: grabs venti cup

Customer: “no I want the biggest one” points at trenta cup

Me: “im sorry I can’t do the frappuccino in that size”

Customer: “I normally get it in that size!”

Me: “do you mean you want the strawberry refresher then?”

Customer: “no the strawberries and creme!”

We went back and forth for like 5 minutes because she didn’t want the frozen drink and didn’t want the refresher either. I still don’t know what she wanted like we only have 2 strawberry drinks on the menu ma’am
narviat 3 points 2y ago
pink drink maybe?
nctneozone 4 points 2y ago
That’s what we ended up giving her but she still said it wasn’t what she wanted lmao
liz203 16 points 2y ago
Coffee frappuccino, no frap base. Just why.
trashmouthfuck 3 points 2y ago
so did they want an espresso frap? or like? a syrup creme frap with no syrup???!!!
liz203 3 points 2y ago
I tried to find them in the lobby when I made the drink but they weren’t in there so I just made what the sticker said. It was peak and I went to start making another drink and then it was gone without a complaint.
bryceofswadia 2 points 2y ago
she really just wanted blended milk lmao
Stella_2020 15 points 2y ago
Customer : places order

Partner: ok, is there anything else I can help you with?

Customer: my dad has covid can u help with that ?

Partner: speechless for a sec talking to partners only on head set “ ummm idk what to say to that “ (awkward laugh)

Customer: heeeelllooo???

Partner: I’m sorry ma’am, I’m not a doctor...

Customer: drives off.....
butholemoonblast 15 points 2y ago
Some lady told me that we wrote the wrong name on her cup ..... no Karen YOUR cup has YOUR name on it ....
Allopathological 15 points 2y ago
“Is there cream in the Irish cream cold brew?”

“Uhhh.... yeah?”
denahom-chikn 14 points 2y ago
“is your sugar free cinnamon dolce sweetened?”
ARTrog 10 points 2y ago
This one actually makes some sense. Some small coffee shops I’ve been to use a syrup brand that is flavored, but not sweetened at all. Kind of like an extract but thinner. So you can get the flavor, but no sugar/sweetener.
caffein8dnotopi8d 2 points 2y ago
Yeah actually Dunkin has these too. They have unsweetened “shots” and sweetened “swirls”.
mrsnataliehooper 1 points 2y ago
Yes! With sugar. Thats what makes it sugar free.
1partwitch 13 points 2y ago
Not at a Starbucks but I worked at a coffee shop in Portland and I feel like you guys will appreciate this:

Customer: can I get an almond milk steamer?

Me: sure, just steamed almond milk? Any flavor in that?

Customer: Nope just steamed almond milk

*hands her the drink. She tries it.

Customer: this doesn’t have any flavor

Me: I’m sorry, I thought you said no flavor just almond milk?

Customer: I’ve literally never had this problem in the past. I just wanted an almond milk steamer.

Me: no problem, I’ll make a steamer and add almond flavor. Did you still want almond milk? Or regular milk WITH almond flavor? or...?

Customer: almond. Milk. Steamer.

*I make an almond milk steamer with almond flavor

Customer: this tastes like it has sugar in it

Me: *dies* I’m so sorry, let’s try again. Did you want -

Customer: NO no no no this has already taken too long. My god. An almond milk steamer is usually easy. It’s ONE ingredient. Right? Am I right? *storms off*

I don’t even work at Starbucks but I’m here for the content of threads like this. Thank you coffee saints. 👏

Someone ordered a cold brew and then asked if that was a hot drink. When I informed them that cold brew was in fact not served hot, she asked if it’s always been that way.
bryceofswadia 1 points 2y ago
I’ve never had this but my coworkers have said they’ve had to steam Cold Brew for people before.
rosesarebloomin 6 points 2y ago
We get someone that comes in a orders a carmel macchiato frappuccino and yes we've tried to talk to him out of it. One person made him a carmel frappuccino once and he lost his shit, the guy says he gets it at the Starbucks in the airport all the time 🥴
pink_haired_bitch 6 points 2y ago
I wonder if a caramel Frappuccino with an affogato add shot is what he wants lol
rosesarebloomin 1 points 2y ago
No, we've made that for him to. He literally just wants a carmel macchiato frappuccino smh
rosesarebloomin 5 points 2y ago
We usually do a vanilla syrup frappuccino with an afffogato shot and carmel drizzle on top. No whip.
pink_haired_bitch 1 points 2y ago
Honestly sounds kind of good lol
ufo_7 5 points 2y ago
I had somebody order a wet latte the other day. People have been so crazy lately that I didn’t even try correcting her... just blinked, paused for a second, then said “sure okay” and hit the wet modifier button. Then shared a laugh with my coworkers. People say stuff to sound like they know what they’re talking about and really they have no idea lmao
bryceofswadia 3 points 2y ago
I was hired a few months ago and my trainer was explaining wet cappuccinos and dry lattes to me and my first thought was “why don’t they just order a cappuccino if they want a dry latte or vice versa?”.
silenceRose20 4 points 2y ago
From yesterday alone:

"Do you have oatmilk?" No we do have coconut soy or almond.
"Is there dairy in the coconut milk?" ...🤨😔 No there is not
"Are you sure? Is there lactose in it??" Yes it's made by our special coconut cows in the back room....but seriously?!?

"Give me a blonde decaf sugar free frap but with heavey cream and extra drizzle and toppings"
I'm sorry?? Never did figure out what they actually wanted since they drove off when I got thru explaining we don't have a blonde decaf roast or espresso....

"I want a bacon gouda cheddar sandwich"
So the bacon gouda? NO a bacon gouda CHEDDER
Um we have a double smoked bacon that has chedder or the bacon with gouda cheese
" NOOO I want it to have bacon and gouda and cheddar on it"
I'm sorry we can't do that.....UGH Nevermind
netgrey 3 points 2y ago
As I customer, I ordered an oatmeal and the barista told me they don’t have oat milk. We both just kinda stared at each other for a hot minute.
pineapplegnome 4 points 2y ago
Cappuccino no foam
420catloveredm 3 points 2y ago
Yesterday we asked someone to pull their mask over their nose and she said “I can’t. My eyes hurt.” For the record she didn’t wear glasses (not that that’s a valid excuse either) but I had no idea where she was coming from.
cush4 2 points 2y ago
Today a customer asked for an oat milk latte “but make it dark roast” hmmm

Me: dark roast? Did you want a dark roast coffee with an oat milk topper?
a latte is steamed milk with shots of espresso.

Customer: i want the shots dark roast.

Me: espresso is the darkest roast.

Customer: the other store always asks if i want the dark roast. I want a grande latte with oat milk. The dark roast

Ok then I’ll make you an oat milk latte

someone asked me for a refresher, but unblended. i told her that the refresher did not come blended, we just make it in a shaker and she said that theyre blended at the starbucks near her. i described that the drink was just one with liquid and ice and she said yes, she knew. i was so confused.

"Can i get a pumpkin cream cold brew but I don't want any coffee in it"

"Ugh ma'am do u know how cold brew works its literally coffee and water"

"Well I don't wanna pay for just water"

"Did u want another drink then"

"Just get me something with pumpkin thats sweet and no coffee"

"Hands a pumpkin spice latte with no coffee"

"I said I wanted a frap"

"Get the fuck out"
CanaryRevolutionary9 2 points 2y ago
Yesterday in the drive-thru a girl ordered a “vanilla bean frap upside down” and that was a new one for me
spiiderblast 2 points 2y ago
Had a customer order a cappuccino and then came back through drive and complain that it was “too light and too foamy”. Okay, wet cappuccino coming up, that’s not right either. She wanted a latte but was swearing up and down that she always ordered it as a cappuccino and we obviously just don’t know how to make them right..... okay..
KnightlyStars 2 points 2y ago
Had a lady order a cappuccino with NO FOAM. 😑
bubli87 1 points 2y ago
My favorite was an extra hot Americano. Not sure how I would do that.
mercipourle-venin 1 points 2y ago
Oh its possible.. I used to have to practically BOIL the water to make hot tea for this man who worked outside all day in the cold. It hurt my hands to hand it to him even when it was double cupped lol.

Someone asked if the Irish Cream had caffeine in it, and I said that our cold brew has caffeine but the Irish Cream Syrup itself doesn’t. She kept saying “you’re not answering my question” even though I explained to her that “Irish Cream Cold Brew” is just regular Cold Brew with Irish Cream Syrup and Foam, and that it doesn’t have any more caffeine than normal cold brew.
fishesaymoo 1 points 2y ago
Someone once told me their ICED caramel cloud had too much foam🤦🏽‍♀️
Kyenne_Pepper123 1 points 2y ago
Someone asked me last night what a mocha is after they ordered a cappuccino. I told them it was basically a chocolate latte. They then proceeded to ask me what the ingredients are.
Davycrockettjones 1 points 2y ago
We used to have a Customer who would order large black coffees, so we always wrote bbc on the cup
conniedew 1 points 2y ago
Can I get a Frappuccino with no ice?!?!?
littlemissbee143 1 points 2y ago
A venti hot iced white mocha.. the following conversation was beyond awkward as they insisted (and continue to insist to this day) that this is a thing. Also had an upside down mocha frap without the whip cream on the bottom, just on top and a latte light on the the milk...as well as being told that a decaf americano tastes too watery and “why doesn’t it taste like coffee?”

"Can I have a regular tall iced cafe mista?" 🤔

Ordered an iced cappuccino. Insisted that other stores have made it for her. 🙄

Yes, that was a real sbux drink a few years ago! Iced latte with a bit of foam from steamed milk on top. The iced cocoa cappuccinos were tasty too; you’d do one less pump of mocha than normal and then top the food with cocoa powder. Sounds gross: surprisingly good.

Edit: By a few years, I mean 7-8 years ago. I’m a 137... partner who worked for Starbucks from 2006-2014.
Resolution_Spare 1 points 2y ago
Wild, I’ve never heard of these! 🤔
feisty314 1 points 2y ago
Now that we have foam blenders, you can use cold foam instead of hot foam. Technically an iced cappuccino is a discontinued drink (if you look up the recipe cards, they have the big "discontinued" watermark on them) but last time I checked the register would still let you ring one up.
mercipourle-venin 1 points 2y ago
This is on the menu at UK Starbucks - I think they just froth the milk and pour it over ice. It’s delicious
marilynmansonsbitch 1 points 2y ago
iced cappuccino’s are still a thing. i gwt one ordered every now and then. with the cold foam blender. theres a recipe card for it.
xlila_x 0 points 2y ago
Someone came in asking for a venti iced espresso with Irish cream cold foam. I told her that the Irish cream cold brew got Irish cream syrup in it and just regular sweet cream cold foam. We could do that in the espresso. But she said she wanted the Irish cream cold foam and that another starbucks always does it for. She almost left too but I told her. Sure we can make it and figured it was probably just adding syrup into the foam so I told the bar person that.

Not dumb but this guy ordered a Red Eye which I had never heard and also masks and all that stuff he repeated it three times before asking for a coffee with an add shot
boxinghamster16 15 points 2y ago
Coffee with a shot is commonly called a red eye, black eye is 2 shots. That's not weird at all.
FutureKnightMaybe 5 points 2y ago
I know now, I learned after looking it up but it was never taught to me :)
I_love_you_drugs 1 points 2y ago
I don’t want to take away from your experience but to be on the other side of this interaction can be startling because you just kind of assume the barista knows. I went to a licensed store in a target and my boyfriend ordered a red eye. The barista taking our order didn’t know what it was and so instead of asking what we meant she turned to the manager and asked her, and the manager replied half decaf with such certainty that I was in shock! We just completed our order and laughed it off later, my boyfriend is very easy going.
CanaryRevolutionary9 0 points 2y ago
Oh I had a guy order that and when I asked him what that was he gave me this smug look and said “oh are you new here?” And I was like no I’ve been here several months people just generally order what’s listed on the menu.
FelicityCecilia -1 points 2y ago
Had a customer get super upset and act all entitled and offended when I wouldnt tell her the code to the bathroom. Like I saw you drive up in your big jeep, just grab a bottle, you know what to do or find a bush, or just drive somewhere else?? We’re in covid, public restrooms are all shut down nothing new.
