Hey guys! I’m a new barista (I just finished two weeks, this week being my actual week out on the floor) and I’m on DTO/DTR and sometimes it happens to be where I’m on both, grabbing my food sometimes, talking to the next person in line, etc, and I just want to know how to get quicker at it and be able to multitask all of those tasks. Sometimes my shift jumps in to help me because the line gets incredibly long and we kind of call behind. A lot of my partners excel at it and I kind of struggle. Would anybody have any tips on how to get quicker?

Try to find a rhythm, like how you mentioned multitasking. I usually try to answer the new call with “hey how r u doing today” cuz that can give you a few seconds to hand out the order at your window, then finish taking the order while setting up your next orders or taking payment from the person at the window. The more you do it the better you’ll get, I used to be so overwhelmed on dto/dtr and now it’s like second nature. And don’t stress too much, even seasoned partners occasionally need someone to jump in and help dto if things momentarily get crazy. Good luck and I’m sure you’re doing great! :)

Hey!!!! I took your advice today and it was great, my shift told me I was doing a good job and started talking about how all the new people are really good including myself. It went smoother today but we got new people today and one was my friend and my SM said she might throw her on DTO/DTR and throw me on bar because apparently I’m good at it for a beginner
