My city just entered its second lockdown Christmas Day. Our cafe and restrooms have been closed and the store is only grab and go. Today my SM announced one of our bathrooms will now be open again to the public. This makes me incredibly uncomfortable. The cases in our small town have been significant the last few weeks, and it was a sigh of relief when we could finally restrict our cafe. The sheer volume of people who have been coming in and out of our store using the washrooms, sitting and staying has been mind boggling to me. When we were told a bathroom is now open again after only being closed for 3 days.... I feel anger. I think it’s unfair to have people making minimum wage go and clean a public restroom during a pandemic. When the first lockdown happened everything was closed, and only when cases were down were our public spaces accessible. The fact that there has been a minimum of 10 cases daily in our small town is terrifying to me, and now we no longer are being offered cat pay or the option to stay home if we are worried about the virus. I stayed at work and never took cat pay back in April because I felt safe, but right now I don’t feel safe and things are so much worse this time around and absolutely nothing is being offered to partners in terms of protecting us. I’m just... angry and don’t know if it’s worth raising any of my concerns to my SM because really... what are they going to do when they are just following orders from our DM.
