Secret Menu question for fellow baristas (self.starbucksbaristas)

Hey friends. I just wanted to ask everyone if the secret menu was a thing at y’all’s store? At my store, we don’t learn anything from the “secret menu.” All the other partners at my store, and even our SM says that it’s not really a thing. If someone asks something the “secrete menu” we politely tell them that we don’t know it off the top of our heads but if they tell us the recipe we’ll gladly make it for them. Some people are cool about it, some people are rude. It is what it is. I just wanted to see what other baristas experienced.

people come in all the time asking for snickerdoodle lattes and stuff like that. i ALWAYS say “if you know the recipe we’d love to make it but none of the baristas working know that recipe as baristas are not trained on making off menu drinks.” if we’re not busy and the person on bar doesn’t mind we sometimes offer to make a surprise drink based of flavors they like. hope this helper

To be fair, the snickerdoodle latte/hot chocolate was an actual menu item last year or maybe the year before, I don’t have a sense of time.

i work at a US store! was snickerdoodle in canada? i’ve been working at starbucks since last august and i had never heard of it before

Nope it was in the US, it was a holiday launch. Probably was before you started then. Like I said I have no sense of time so it could have been anywhere from 1-3 years ago lol.

2 years ago. It was like 3-5 hot chocolates that rolled out at the same time. We even had these weird shard like chocolate sprinkles

No stores learn things from the secret menu. The secret menu is a fan websites with recipes for drinks.

If anyone’s going to know a secret menu item at my store it’s usually me, and that’s because I lurk TikTok and read all those annoying Snapchat stories on my breaks. But there’s no expectation that we know that.
Every so often my manager likes to do a store drink or like a “partner pick”, and we’re expected to know that. Those drinks are usually popular secret menu items but... it’s like one drink every three months and we get to pick it.
