What determines the mobile order estimated wait time customers see on the app? (self.starbucksbaristas)

And why does it always say 7 minutes even when we're like 40 minutes behind? Is there some system to have it reflect our actual current store condition?

A broken algorithm. My guess is they use a very basic formula that lacks important inputs like actual staffing and actual business for that day.

Algorithm can’t work unless someone is marking them as made at handoff which is rare. No other way for the system to know what drinks are done.

i’m pretty sure it’s a set number that your DM chooses for the store. ours is always like 10 mins even if it’s a 40 min wait. there’s no way to track how long mobile orders are taking to be made.

How bad is your staffing if there's a 40 minutes wait? my store has never been more than 16 minutes behind.

We usually have 6 people working but we're a high volume store that gets way more mobile orders than cafe orders. We can be totally caught up on cafe orders but still be that behind on mobiles because no matter how well staffed you are, there's only so fast you can go with two espresso machines.

it’s not staffing. having more people on the floor wouldn’t change a thing. it’s the fact that we are the highest volume drive thru store not only in my city, but in every surrounding city and then more. we have two espresso bars. at this time of year, most drinks are hot. so only two people are making drinks at a time.

one for drive thru, one for mobiles and cafe.

if someone walks into the cafe to order at peak, they are behind at least twenty cafe orders of multiple drinks, and probably at least ten mobile orders of 2-5 drinks, which are all being made by a singular barista. let’s say each drink takes about a minute to make- that can easily make a 40 min wait.

I don't see it. If wait times are that bad you need more staff or training to get those times down. I work in a store that does about 12k per day and we rarely have wait times over 5 minutes.

i just explained it to you, and i don’t understand how you don’t see it. perhaps more staff would help to make sure everything is 100% stocked all the time. but they cannot help with drinks.

even moving as efficiently and as quickly as possible it’s impossible to have a 5 min wait when i have 3 separate 5 drink mobile orders before the cafe orders.
