I absolutely love a good Flat White. I would say that 80% of the time I order one, it’s just a latte. I like lattes and I always drink it and have never taken it back, but Flat Whites do cost a bit more.
No judgement at all, but what do you think the issue is here? I haven’t ordered one in well over a year because of this. Thanks!

The standard recipe for a flat white is ristretto shots and whole milk. Depending on the size of the drink, they get 2/3/3 shots. Is the concern that there’s not enough foam? Or maybe the barista is just cueing regular shots/using reg (2%) milk? The issue could also be if they have the old Mastrenas and the calibration is off. What about it exactly tastes weird?

It's a skill level thing. New baristas typically can't create the micro foam.

Also like, a flat white ordered during a slow time is gonna end up far better than one during peak bc the barista has more time to ensure the pour is good, milk groomed, etc.

A flat white has one more shot than a latte, is made with ristretto shots, and whole milk. It should be strong but also smooth and creamy. The foam is also a little more specific. I think a lot of people make them wrong and is maybe why they taste like just lattes :/

Exactly, the whole smooth and creamy thing is non-existent and the ristretto isn’t right. Thanks

Besides the Ristretto shots and whole milk what do you look for in a flat white? 🤔

The micro foam and specific pour?

I figured as much, honestly with the way Starbucks is structured these days I don't think baristas are able to pay attention to the fine details like that. Doing the proper pour takes time that partners don't necessarily have when they're on the floor. Although, if OP is looking for the proper micro foam they might have more luck asking for light foam, especially with the mastrenas. I have more luck getting the right texture if I'm aiming for a light amount of foam.

Thank you. I’ll probably just order one if it’s not a busy day and I’m ordering inside, not drive through.

I could care less about the dot in the middle. It must be the micro foam. It also doesn’t always taste the way , so maybe it’s just a regular espresso shot and not the ristretto. I just don’t want to be an asshole and take it back. I know everyone says it’s ok to take it back up, but I won’t do it unless it’s a hot drink that’s cold or something pretty bad.

Speaking as a barista at Starbucks who loves flat whites, the difference in taste is strikingly different from a latte and I get it! We do generally want you to receive the drink you paid for, so seriously don’t feel bad about asking for a remake!
