I saved all of my tips for the past year (i.redd.it)
submitted by rsn_attacker
rsn_attacker [OP] 353 points 2y ago
It came out to $971 working an average of 15 hours a week as a full time college student.

Going to do another year of saving up!
ShutMyWh0reM0uth 94 points 2y ago
Great work. Don't worry, I see the $2 bill
jayessdubs 23 points 2y ago
Are you really a Starbucks barista if you don't get a $2 at least every month ?
ShutMyWh0reM0uth 6 points 2y ago
Prepandemic, I haven't seen a cash tip jar in years. Maybe it's me?
jayessdubs 1 points 2y ago
at starbucks? That and mobile order is the only way my store can do tips, credit card tipping not allowed :(

How much did you manage to save of your standard paycheck?
GoldTurds- -10 points 2y ago
Dont forget to claim them when you do your taxes...and saves a chunk for taxes lol
westhawk777 43 points 2y ago
it’s already imputed by the company. check your paystubs.
centarx 12 points 2y ago
The paystubs assume 50 cents per hour
westhawk777 25 points 2y ago
don’t pay tax on that $.50 twice is all i’m saying
jackie920 8 points 2y ago
Whether or not your tips need to be claimed actually depends on your state.
GoldTurds- -17 points 2y ago
Cash tips are not. You need to pay taxes on them still.

You can get away with not if you just use it as pocket change immediately.

But saving it up like this then depositing it, or buying something will catch CRA/IRS's attention
[deleted] 1 points 2y ago
The IRS really gonna bother someone for depositing less than $1000?
centarx 12 points 2y ago
Why would you do that you would be losing money
GoldTurds- -14 points 2y ago
Yall like tax fraud lol. Its a earned income.
reb678 153 points 2y ago
Oops. I smoked mine.
stfuari 82 points 2y ago
literally all i use my tips for is for my dispensary trips lmfao
reb678 29 points 2y ago
I glad I’m not the only one here. Lol.
Js_On_My_Yeet 22 points 2y ago
I'm so happy to see other partners that are potheads lol
reb678 11 points 2y ago
A couple of years ago my sciatica was so bad I’d eat a 5mg chocolate covered blueberry before my shift in the parking lot and another on break. I did that for 3-4 months before I went out on medical leave and had an operation.

Allegedly.
ih8yogurt 4 points 2y ago
Where did you get those because those sound amazing!!
reb678 6 points 2y ago
In California there is a company called Kiva Extracts. They make them and chocolate covered espresso beans @5mg. They also make a breath mint that was 2mg. Those were nice too be cause at those strengths, you can still function but the pain is dimmer.

Edit: it’s $1 not Extracts. Sorry. And a zip code in San Francisco is 94016 if anyone wants to know.
xEman26x 5 points 2y ago
Me and my coworker call tip day weed day lol
AvoFromCado 22 points 2y ago
There’s multiple people at my store that head to the nearest dispensary together on tip day😂
420catloveredm 3 points 2y ago
Same dude.... same.
dfarner 75 points 2y ago
There’s got to be at least $40 there
kxnkycxrly 2 points 2y ago
I FELT THIS
TheDoctor88888888 52 points 2y ago
Nice job! It’ll be nice to have 26 dollars for the new year
PenPar 29 points 2y ago
I have been saving my tips from last October. I have so far saved just under $2,000. Saving all these for travel. As soon as I had enough to visit Seattle with my parents and brother Covid hit us. xD
MatchingColors 20 points 2y ago
Mine would look like pyramid of rolled pennies
terrorofconception 19 points 2y ago
Not to be all personal finance about it, but you might want to consider putting it in a brokerage account instead and holding something like VTSAX with it instead of jarring it, now that you’ve got a chunk of change.
rsn_attacker [OP] 5 points 2y ago
Will look into it, thanks!
[deleted] 13 points 2y ago
This is a straight genius move. Good for you.
XxTRUEPINOYxX 10 points 2y ago
Mine is in my red cup that I got during the holiday launch as I was hired on Nov 2. I haven’t opened it yet XD
ginobili_vic0629 8 points 2y ago
Question, when we tip through the app do you guys get the tips?
mxs4235 13 points 2y ago
Shift supervisor here and yes. We’re prompted to drop “digital tips” every night.
8263017491739274 8 points 2y ago
Okay I’m definitely gonna do this in 2021
rsn_attacker [OP] 6 points 2y ago
Hell yeah! I honestly just threw it in my jar every week after work and just organized it when it got too full
luka2477 7 points 2y ago
Work on holidays. I walked home with $213 yesterday just for working through Christmas
Imnewtoit 7 points 2y ago
$971 won’t get anyone’s attention. If they ask, it was birthday and Christmas money. You’re good. Great job
_Pulltab_ 6 points 2y ago
Mine all went for tattoos. Lol
ih8yogurt 2 points 2y ago
I’m using mine for my first tattoo :)
Canadiansbux 6 points 2y ago
I work in a kiosk in a grocery store. We aren't allowed tips 😪
jocaseyjo 8 points 2y ago
My kiosk used to keep tips to donate to a kill shelter then kept them as part of our “store profits”. The corporate store across the road closed for COVID, we got ALL their traffic (keep in mind our kiosk had a staff of 9 people), then our department manager went to the store director and demanded we be able to keep our tips as compensation for the unprecedented amount of customers coming through open to close.
ih8yogurt 7 points 2y ago
Good on your department manager! (Guessing tl)
scoot_the_poet 5 points 2y ago
Tips paid for my spouse’s engagement ring! Now they buy all my beer and weed lol
CriticalSheep 3 points 2y ago
Yeah!! Congrats! Your store must have an awesome tip ratio!
hautmess 3 points 2y ago
That’s what I started doing in March when I was working full time hours (and even now being part time) as an emergency fund. I’ve had to use some of it recently but still manage to have about $700 but I’ll have to recount to make sure.🤣 I let my envelope accumulate every 2-3 weeks before picking them up. Wish I got bigger bills though because my cash box is nothing but 1s 😂
Unipanther368 3 points 2y ago
I did the same thing! Came out to $654 I think? But the first job before Starbucks did credit tips too that automatically went into our paycheck, so I don't think cash tips were as good.
Lazror 3 points 2y ago
M’y Starbucks didnt allow for tiping :(
Luna_Pear 3 points 2y ago
OMG I do the same!!!!!❤️
christinekwine 3 points 2y ago
That’s awesome!!!
Icedoutindia 2 points 2y ago
yes great job !!! I’ve been saving mine since sept and I have $600 I love how we all think the same 😂😂😂
NervosaNervous 2 points 2y ago
I’ve done this, too! Keeping the tips I made for 2020 and depositing them in my savings at the end of the year.

NO-IM-DIRTY-DAN 2 points 2y ago
Man I wish I made money on tips. They averaged to about $8 a week since I worked in a college town
csaine 2 points 2y ago
Mine are helping with college!
MaintainEveryday 2 points 2y ago
Wow you saved them all that’s crazy. Good for you I always spent it on my gas lol. Yeah this is why I left for being a waiter after realizing you’re lucky to get even $2 per hour in tips. Jokes on me tho since I can’t get either job back and settled for part time retail lol. Life’s funny.
tinydesthique 2 points 2y ago
i will do this for this new year
TheBeardDoctor 2 points 2y ago
Should have dumped some of that in bitcoin. I’ve been doing that with my tips and rather than sitting in a jar, they just keep doubling in value.
ih8yogurt 2 points 2y ago
I have over $400 and only started in late august :) I save it in an envelope in my step stool
dcho94 2 points 2y ago
Lol yeah thats what im doing too w my tip money except i use it for gas and getting my car washed 🤷🏻
Modaby 2 points 2y ago
How much was it?
rsn_attacker [OP] 3 points 2y ago
$971!
BigAngTheBarista 2 points 2y ago
This is genius
electricr0se 2 points 2y ago
I did the same thing too! Go treat yourself to something nice ☺️
rsn_attacker [OP] 27 points 2y ago
It's awesome! I'm actually saving up for an engagement ring for my long time girlfriend :)
ih8yogurt 3 points 2y ago
Awwww that’s so sweet!!!!
conn663 2 points 2y ago
you guys are getting tips?...
XxTRUEPINOYxX 6 points 2y ago
If you work at a corporate store you get weekly tips
kxnkycxrly 1 points 2y ago
all my tips from one year would be like $400 cause the tip system is fucked.
[deleted] 1 points 2y ago
I’m gonna do this!! So far I have been using my tips to tip others.
whataretheysellin 1 points 2y ago
I definitely need to do this again
ttazzyy 1 points 2y ago
i’m inspired!!
