I had a lady come into Starbucks today and while I’m on bar moving around sequencing my drinks and making sure everything is going smooth she asks if one of the drinks o was working on was hers and I’m on bar I’m far away from the register plus a full store and really loud music so I can’t hear anything that is not directly in front of me. So she asks if the next drink was hers and I just shoot back for a light comment “ don’t honestly know? I don’t read the names on the cup.” To which she shoots back “well yeah with you moving around and bopping and zooming your bit even reading anything on the cups I bet you don’t even have these order right... and at this point in her insulting me and my process that she has no fucking clue about what’s happening so I stop have her drink in my hand not breaking eye contact while I deliberately put a md scoop in the ice bin for her “light ice white mocha with no whip and not stirred” written on the bottom because it was an ask me on the sticker. I set the drink down holding it high enough for her to see. But then I make a tragic mistake.... I put the whip cream on top out of habit I was to cocky and I messed up. I slide the drink out confidently thinking I got her to shut up, but she looks at me and snaps no! That was supposed to be no whip! For *Michele and she then proceeds to bitch about how I didn’t even listen when I put the ice in or how the espresso was stirred in her coffee, all except the whip were a lie and she watched me the whole time so I look at it still in my hand and I say “I don’t need the attitude okay. I’ll fix your drink for you thank you very much!” And her retort was “well I’m the customer I don’t need the attitude either!” And I just look at her tilt my head and say “ and I’m the employee you still have to respect” then make her second drink already and hand it out she looks at it and says “it still has that huge scoop of ice I don’t know why you still added that huge ass ice!” I cut her off here and say “mam it’s this one I used” pointing at the scoop she just watched me put away “it is two sizes smaller than what that drink comes with!” And she throws in “well I’m having an issue with your attitude!” I raise my voice just a bit in a deeper tone and say “I’m done if you want the manager there she is!” Pointing over to my shift who was on register and took her order after explaining that the pumps of white mocha would melt when she gets the drink so it might look stirred! So this lady says “I will talk to the manager then and cuts everyone in line to talk about how awful I was and how I was being very rude and she didn’t know how to refer to me because when she walked away she said “I will tell the manager that he/she/that /they are just being so rude and nasty and can’t make my drink after I watched them four times” and I felt so honored she really tried to respect my pronouns in a really offensive way. Like wow that’s impressive you can have respect there but not when they are right in front of your face. So one of our long term baristas steps in behind the shift and says okay I’ll go ahead and Fox the issue here I’ll make it with some more white mocha on the bottom so it doesn’t melt.” The Michele nods her head and says “yeah whatever” gesturing very crossed off and proceeds to talk about me while I work on other drinks leaving it out of my hands so it doesn’t escalate from there. She takes the drink gets upset with the ice with the barista but rolls her eyes realized I DID give her light ice and walks out. I loose my groove o had cause I was actually shaking so hard on the situation she had a lot of things she could try to say to get me in trouble or escalate into something worse. But I just try to shake it off and continue working if I ignore and move on it’ll look a lot better on my behalf and can’t get in trouble. She comes back in a bit slower, cuts the line again and says to the shift “this tastes way to sweet like all I can taste is the white mocha this isn’t what I wanted I just don’t understand what’s so freaking hard to get right about this drink!” To which I walk to the back wear the seasoned vet was she was on customer support and had her arms up past elbow in suds now. I loose control of my voice and kinda yell “she’s complaining about your drink now!” And she shoots back getting the sudds off and the clean dishes all in one fail swoop. “What do you mean?” I quickly I’m disbelief let out “ she came back in and complained about the ice, which I don’t think was really her main issue this time after yo., right right but she said it was too sweet!” The barista roles back, scoffs “to sweet! That’s the only way you’ll get the syrup to sit!” She runs back up front because she can’t believe she’s still upset with the drink. A third person who I lose track of at this point makes it and she leaves while I go to the back for a bit to not scream at any customer.
