I was yelled at in front of customers and I will have satisfaction (or feel extremely embarrassed 😅) (self.starbucksbaristas)

Ok guys, so I have a dilemma. I’ve been having an issue with a new barista who transferred into our store over the order of syrups in our hot bar rack. It sounds stupid but stay with me.

When he first started, he kept switching the syrups to his preference and when I asked why he kept changing them, he bitched me out pretty loudly in front of the whole store. Suffice to say, it was war from that moment on.

The order that I think is correct (the order that I’ve seen in every Starbucks I’ve ever walked into) is:

*also our bar one espresso machine is on the right for reference*

Top Shelf (from left to right)

Seasonal syrup (Irish cream rn)
Honey Blend
Peppermint
Raspberry
SFCD
SFV

Bottom Shelf (left to right)

Seasonal (Chestnut Praline rn)
Toffee Nut
Hazelnut
CD
Caramel
Vanilla

The way he prefers it has the hazelnut being moved in between the caramel and vanilla. The reason he gave is that it makes it easier for baristas when they have to make “French vanilla” flavored drinks (equal parts vanilla and hazelnut). The conversation where he yelled at me was when I tried to explain that the original format was set up to reflect the syrups we use the most often.

For the sake of my sanity and (hopefully) the satisfaction of proving him wrong, please weigh in if you like or share the way your store sets them up!

TL;DR

A coworker yelled at me in front of customers and other colleagues over a simple disagreement and now I want to prove him wrong.

I would agree with you. We no longer have a single riser between our bars, but vanilla and caramel are always next to each other, cinnamon dolce usually after, with sfv and sfcd above the vanilla and caramel. Everything else never really mattered too much.

My store is set up the way he says it but honestly he should just deal with it, ya'll are in the majority in your store and its easier for him to relearn muscle memory than all of you.

I can’t believe he’s allowed to switch the syrups what the hell? if we ever did that we’d get very scolded by our manager

I miss working in a store where people actually paid attention to where they put the syrups. At my current store, they get put back in a different order every time so it's impossible to build muscle memory.

I like to have vanilla and caramel together since they're the most used at my store but sometimes when another barista is on bar they might change things up. It was really wrong for him to yell at you but also if youre the one on bar you can just change it to what you prefer while youre there. if hes on bar and youre telling him how to put syrups when youre not making the drinks then I kinda understand him getting frustrated /:
