two COVID positive cases in less than a month (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by babystartwink
So basically the week of December 14th 12 out of 15 of my team, and the manager, had to isolate when a partner tested positive for covid. For some reason myself and two other baristas were told we still had to work since we didn’t have direct contact with that partner. We had borrowed partners come in and work with the three of us while most of the team was isolating. Everyone who had to isolate got tested and all tested negative, the whole team was back in shop December. 21st. I just got a call from my manager about an hour ago telling me ANOTHER partner has tested positive for covid. Apparently, lucky me, I again haven’t had direct contact with this partner so I still have to go to work 🙃 I don’t know what I’m asking for here but I’m just SO FRUSTRATED! I live in Toronto where our city’s on lockdown but we’re still operating under a grab & go model. The past month or so Ontario has been reporting its highest covid cases EVER and I just don’t understand why we’re still open. or at least switch to just delivery and mobile. I don’t understand why all the people I work with every day are told to isolate and I don’t have to? But I can work with 10+ borrowed partners while they all isolate! It doesn’t make any sense and Starbucks keeps stressing they care about the partners more than anything but continue to do NOTHING to show this. I can’t quit I need to pay rent and have benefits but I really can’t stand being here anymore and I feel like I’m at the end of my rope and once I’m able to work at a new store I never want to go into a starbucks EVER again.

Back to the isolating situation though, any advice on what I can do or say to my manager? I really don’t feel comfortable working when over 90% of my staff has isolate and I have to work and be exposed to all these new people and whoever they see when they don’t work but I don’t think I can refuse to work?

TLDR: two partners on my team tested covid positive in less than a month but somehow I’m still safe to work and don’t have to isolate, I don’t feel comfortable doing so but I’m not sure if I’m allowed?

Please tell me they are at least closing the store and doing a deep clean? Cause from what it sounds like, they aren’t and that’s not even remotely okay.
