Taking names in the drive thru (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by catatoniccatalyst
Recently, my manager (bless her) has started to ask us to ask customers their names at the order box in order to get our CC scores up (we’re a drive thru/walk up only) it’s actually helped our scores and for the most part the customers have been receptive and willing to give us names, except for a few, and for those few, man did they leave an impression.
One interaction when we first started:
Me: “If you don’t mind, can I get a name for your order?”
(Headsets are fussy and it’s hard to enunciate sometimes bc of the masks)
Customer: “what was that?”
Me: *repeats question*
Customer: “Can you just stop asking questions and give me my coffee?” *drives up to window and proceeds to complain*

Or just this past Saturday when another partner asks the same question the customer says:
“I don’t need to give a name it’s a fucking drive thru.”

On one hand, yes, I get that it doesn’t make a lot of sense, but it doesn’t take much to not yell and shit on the barista taking your order who’s just doing what they’re told to do.

Some people tell us their name in the drive thru even if we don’t ask for it lol

My store tried that for a couple weeks but since it was a new question a lot of customers really didn’t understand what we were asking them or why. We ended up stopping pretty quickly, lots of people were annoyed and it slowed us down significantly on DTO.

That’s just such a weird thing to do. I’m glad my manager doesn’t make us do that. If I was a customer I would feel awkward.

Just be like I’m supposed to ask for your order. But if you don’t wanna give me one that’s fine too. Write thank you on their cup and hand it out. People drive me crazy

We’ve been asking for names for a few months now. Every now and then we get someone that throws a fit about it but most are cool with it. I’m sorry they are giving you guys a hard time!
