Be me a good barista trying to promote our Meatless Mondays with a cheerful smile. Take a customers order in drive and offer our Impossible Sandwich or SW Veggie Wrap. Customer declines no big deal but towards the end I say “No problem it is all through January every Monday.” Customer says alright maybe next Monday! My manager hops on and says
“What’s all through January?”
“Oh the meatless Monday deal we got.”
“Don’t promote that crap, I’m not pulling more sandwiches for this shit they don’t pay me enough.”
Cue aggressive promotion of Meatless Monday and we are now sold out of vegetarian options. Spite is a powerful motivator. Have fun pulling sandwiches.

Also, none of the customers were angry. Dunno where you got that idea. Obviously the customers weren’t that angry if I managed to sale out our products. 🤭

your manager, correctly, said that you didn’t have to promote a bullshit corporate push that would do nothing for anyone at the store but would give them, already overworked, more work. So you decided to make everyone ELSE have a bad day with angry customers by intentionally trying to sell out of product? Just say “hi welcome to starbucks” or something

1) Shifts already have to pull sandwiches at eod. Didn’t know that having to pull sandwiches is considered “extra” work when they already have to do it.
2) it is a one day a week promotion. If it was an everyday of January thing probably wouldn’t have pushed so hard.
3) I pride myself on upselling, I’m good at it. Looks good for our numbers.
4) this particular shift will find anything and everything to complain about. “We’re understaffed” boss hires like four people “Who’s going to train them, this is ridiculous.” They are what I like to call a problem finder. They find problems. It’s like a hobby.
So yeah. I took an asshole comment made by my shift and decided to turn it around. I made some awesome sales today and I’m proud of that. ✌🏻
