How are CC Scores Calculated? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by temporarymaintanence
The title pretty much says it all but for context I'm relatively new (4 months) and only work 1-2 days a week because of school so I feel like I miss a lot of information and recently i heard something about our Customer Connection score and trying to raise it. What is this past being nice and interactive with customers and how is it calculated?

Also if anyone has any tips for interacting past the minimum with customers that would be greatly appreciated too 😊

I believe it’s on a score of 1-7 and it includes things you wouldn’t think of such as “Did your barista try to get to know you?”. that’s the part I find that throws people off the most and I believe it might be the most important one, so I would say that beyond being nice and helpful, ask some vaguely personal questions when in positions such as register or drive thru. These could include things like their favorite color, or season, what they have planned/have done today, and questions jumping off that. Just make sure they’re not too personal so you don’t freak anyone out. People who use the app are the ones who get the survey, so if you have any mobile order/app using regulars try to get to know them a lot. such as learning and recognizing their names, and remembering little things about them! I find people like when you recognize them and it makes a closer connection, rather than them feeling like just another random customer. Honestly I would say just to try your best but don’t push yourself to the point of burnout, especially if social interactions are tiring for you. Just try your best and be polite! :)

Also for customer experience I believe it’s important to understand and pull back when customers seem uncomfortable. Even though CC scores are super important I believe customer boundaries are more important, even if Starbucks doesn’t think so. So just use your judgement in who to talk most to. Also one thing I forgot to mention is that I find that genuine compliments are a great way to open up a conversation with certain people!

I am a partner and I got a CC survey a few months ago. I meant to take screenshots to share but the screen locked me out...anyway yes I know throw they work and it’s bullshit. One of the questions was about the prices, another about menu offerings, how the app works, item availability, things not in our control. In fact store cleanliness isn’t even in our control when the only 3 baristas are told to stay planted on bar, reg, handoff so there is nobody to clean the lobby. So I really don’t care about the number because it’s a zero-sum game, if they don’t check the 7 then it counts as a 0 score. So there is no point to numbers 1-6, customers think they are grading on a scale but it’s just win or lose. Or should I say lose/lose because it’s hopeless trying to improve scores ourselves. One question is whether or not you were greeted when you walk in. My favorite customers tell me they hate that anyway. Corporate is out of touch.

Dont worry about the cc scores they are vague and only a small portion of the customers are ever even interviewed for them. Never walk-ins.
