My SM gives me free reign to design boards (and create new cold brew concoctions) to sell tons of cold brew at our store. (I know, I’m the worst, but our whole staff loves it and so do our customers). Here’s the most recent one! (i.redd.it)

Why though? Those modifiers raise the average transaction total and bring in more labor, as annoying as they are to make you’d think management would like that. In my store management is pushing us pretty hard to upsell as much as we possibly can. I hate it, I feel pushy and rude doing it.

Upselling is different from advertising non-standard recipes.
Like any good business, consistency is key. If all stores were to make up their own drinks, customers would eventually become annoyed that they can only get certain drinks at certain stores.
By teaching them how to ask for the add-ons instead, it helps ensure they have a smoother experience at every store.
The REAL question is: why doesn’t corporate just make actual drink recipes with existing ingredients?
Probably because there’s no real increase in profit so there’s no point.

Our district does barista of the month and they get to make up a drink that is spotlighted that month. Only our district does those drinks and our customers LOVE it! We just tell them that they can’t order them at other stores🤷🏼♀️

i feel like it would be so much more fun to work if we were able to show the customers the drinks WE came up with like this. then at least we understand going in how much effort the drink takes, especially with sequencing and shit. it just feels so nice to recommend something that ill actually drink, and see a customer enjoy it as much as i do

This sounds so good! I’m a customer, how would I order this? I usually get venti so would it’s just be venti cold brew with white mocha, honey infused cold foam and the sprinkles? Sorry if that’s a dumb question, just want to make sure I’m not one of THOSE customers.

In a grande cold brew: 4 pumps white mocha (ask them to stir it a little to incorporate the sauce), vanilla sweet cream cold foam with 2 pumps honey blend in the foam, cinnamon dolce toppings. Enjoy!

Because your baristas will need clarification (there's no "honey infused cold foam" on the menu), it's not the salted honey cold foam. OP says it's vanilla sweet cream cold foam with two pumps of honey. Personally, I'd recommend asking for regular cold foam with two pumps of honey, since vanilla sweet cream is a pain to keep stocked. Your baristas will thank you

For Valentine’s Day I make myself an iced mocha w/ cold foam that I add strawberry purée to. Would probably be good with VSC foam but the skim keeps it from being too heavy.

See the ONLY problem I see with this is customers going to other stores asking for this specific drink thinking it’s on the menu when it isn’t.

I know, I know. But it really helps our connection score and like I said, our customers love it. We get requests for Tik toks constantly. I try to keep these drinks to the same build so it’s not a total pain in the ass.

To be honest this drink( and most of the ones partners come up with) are leagues better than most other drinks Starbucks comes up with. I would think you would be fine if you just put on there that only your store is doing it and essentially treating it as a secret menu item or something

I manage a kiosk inside a grocery store and we have glass surrounding our Starbucks. We write on it with chalk pens "Barista Drink of the Week" and every week I change it out to a new concoction that one of my employees came up with. They like doing, the customers order a ton of them, and they are always high dollar items due to all the add-ons. Only downside is when customers try to order one from months back and we have to try to remember lol.

Yes!! That’s basically this. I kinda spearheaded it at my store but I do encourage others to give me their ideas. I really just love drawing the signs. And we make a ton of sales on the up charges!

This may not be a well received comment, so I'm sorry in advance if it comes across as mean.
First off I ADORE the art and word play! You've got some serious talent.
I just needed to relate that I got someone in today wanting a 'bee drink' that they saw a store had somewhere. I'd not heard of a secret menu item asked for with anything like that and asked, but they were very adamant it was a 'starbucks drink' and it had been posted on a board in a store. I was confused, they were confused and when even a search (which is a no no but I did for the right moment experience, due to phones being a HUGE deal on the floor near registers with corporate) couldn't yield anything they left not wanting to get anything else and swearing we didn't know our own drinks. Until much later when someone else came thru and had the recipe on their phone for it, I was still really confused as to where the customer had gotten it from and thought it was one of our actual drink items.
So just a word of caution, please please have some sore of language on the sign saying it isn't an official starbucks drink recipe or is a personal barista made recipe or something.....because these things go to the corners of the earth QUICK and can cause a lot of negative connections and missed moments when customers see it in store and assume any store will know it.
I'm glad your SM and DM are supportive of and encouraging the creative fun in store, genuinely makes work a joy and team builds like nothing else.

I agree, there should be some sort of small but noticeable disclaimer that this isn't an actual Starbucks menu item, but a partner's own creation. We get folks in all the time asking for god knows what, then getting frustrated at us bc we have no effing clue what they're asking for.
