first day at starbucks andddd(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by dwightshru
I WAS FREEZING!!! mind you, I was just doing the modules and forms, touring the little store. I live in chicago and it’s literally 20 degrees outside. my starbucks is in a mall so it’s very cold and I wore a long sleeve top and some wide leg pants.
I was planning on buying some fleece crew necks but I don’t want to end up getting hot when I get on the floor. what do you guys wear to keep warm? (that isn’t hooded of course).

I had the same issue, during my training when I was sitting for most of my shift doing computer modules I was FREEZING and had to wear layers every day. Now that I’m actually working and not doing computer stuff I don’t get cold anymore. It’s actually quite the opposite and I find myself getting pretty HOT quickly.

I agree it can be cold when off the floor, but when on the floor you can work up a sweat

Always bring a cardigan or sweater and worse case you have to take it off
AvoFromCado15 points2y ago
Definitely layer! There will be times where you get busy and will overheat if you wear clothing that’s too thick

agreed. i usually wear a dress code t-shirt under my sweater

green bean here. I start all my outfits off with a long sleeve black t shirt which was a tip given to me by the assistant manager that hired me.

Me and like 5 other baristas have a Columbia fleece zip up to keep warm on the floor. This was pure coincidental too so idk if we all have hive mind from working together.

are the columbia fleece zip ups good on DTR??? i’m literally always cold and the only jacket i have that’s even slightly warm enough for DTR is a black hoodie, especially since my coworkers will literally kill you over the heater 😭
yoonade215 points2y ago
Yes yes! It’s really good for DTR I wear it all the time when I either do solo, window etc. I got a size up on mine because it’s comfy and at the same time when I’m not holding anything I can just put the sleeves over my hands to keep warm. I live in Minnesota so I can guarantee it to be a pretty good winter investment for work.
BatWeary3 points2y ago
i guess that finalizes my decision to buy one, then 😆 it’s been in the low 20s alll week i can’t take another day on DTR in a thin long sleeve shirt lol

Glad to be of help. Good luck and stay warm! 🤗

Another partner and I have these too!! Love them

I wear cardigans and sweaters that I can easily take off when I’m hot, I learned the hard way too lol I’m in Detroit

Omg my coworker and I are literally sitting in front of our managers heater that’s tucked away under his desk. I’m convinced all Starbucks are set to AC until the end of time until I’m sweating my ass off on bar.lol
Anxious_Database2 points2y ago
Yeah I agree with everyone that when you’re moving around and busy you won’t worry about the cold as much. This won’t apply to you since you’re in a mall but working the drive through in the winter is always FREEZING especially when it’s busy and you have to have the window open pretty much the whole time! In my store we are allowed to wear our winter coats at the drive through even if they don’t meet dress code, although I’m sure that depends on your SM.
medusas-garden2 points2y ago
I literally put on a jacket during my breaks bc it’s cold in the back and I always drink something iced and end up shivering so bad lol. Once you’re actually working you’ll be moving around a lot and the cold won’t be an issue tho

I work in a mall too and I’m right by the entrance so I totally feel this. I wear long sleaved sweater shirts. Nothing too heavy because when you’re on the floor you might not be so cold. And you can always wear cardigans or any like jean jacket or other type of sweatshirt as long as it has no hood and is within dress code. 👍

I wear long sleeve button up shirts that I roll to my elbows and I'm fine in bar, on window tho my store lets us get our coat -michigan weather sucks

I work in the east coast, I wear leggings under my denim jeans and a long sleeve shirt with a tshirt on top. I'll take a sweater on top and remove it when I'm there, and a jacket to get to the store. Layers are ur friend!
