If a customer is behaving in a manner to where you suspect they may be intending to shoplift merchandise, go start up a conversation with them about the merchandise they have their eye on. This is a good way to discourage them from shoplifting without accusing them of having negative intent.
If a customer is experiencing COVID symptoms, assume positive intent, don't assume that they're sick, and serve them.
Translation: We at Starbucks don't want to lose the profit of a tumbler but don't care if a customer spreads COVID to the partners in a store and to other customers.

the other day we had a lady get a soy vanilla latte (so distinct taste, lots of vanilla) and she said it tasted like water. ummm... okay.. not sure how, but we’ll remake for you. i personally remake her drink exactly to spec, she takes it, ‘It still tastes like water!’ ummm.. ma’am, with all due respect, i think you might want to visit a testing facility...

Omg I had a lady who got a soy vanilla chai no water ask me if I put water in her chai because it tasted like water....lol oddly similar

Soy milk tastes soooo strongly, that's concerning

The same thing happened at our store with a customer. She says everyday that she can't taste her latte. One of my shift supervisors was like, "Here's the latte she orders every morning. She comes through the drive-thru. If she comes back, sanitize everything after we serve her." I was like, "Can't we just refuse to serve her?" My manager was like, "No." It's fucking bullshit.

Yup. I asked a coughing customer in drive thru to please have a mask on at the window and he told my supervisor he’s going to call corporate on me. (I am located in a stay at home mask mandate region).

Tell him to fuck off and wear his stupid mask.
This is why one of my masks says on it to “wear the stupid mask” if I don’t verbally say it they can’t fire me for pointing at it
philosopher_cat_lady [OP]1 points2y ago
They can totally fire you for wearing that mask.
ih8yogurt1 points2y ago
They haven’t said anything about it yet.
philosopher_cat_lady [OP]3 points2y ago
Then you've got some really cool shift supervisors and manager
philosopher_cat_lady [OP]2 points2y ago
What are the details of your mandate? Are customers required to wear masks in your drive-thru?
blondiebarista1 points2y ago
No but it is Starbucks policy and in writing as well about wearing a mask in the drive thru. I wouldn’t normally ask someone to wear a mask in the drive thru but if you’re going to be hacking a lung during a pandemic it’s not an unreasonable request. My area ICU capacity is at 5% so it’s pretty bad around here.
philosopher_cat_lady [OP]1 points2y ago
It's not Starbucks policy as far as I'm aware.

When people come in and say “can I get a venti medicine ball? I’m feeling sick”
philosopher_cat_lady [OP]3 points2y ago
Assholes. I'm looking for documentation as to whether or not we can refuse service to sick people. I had a shift supervisor who said we can. She doesn't work for Starbucks anymore.

I ended up getting covid at work the other week, and I’m having lasting effects where I’m sitting here desperately gasping for air every few minutes. This shit sucks dude ;-;
philosopher_cat_lady [OP]2 points2y ago
I'm sorry. Starbucks does not care about our safety.
