So I recently started working at Starbucks, about 3 months ago, and I am still struggling to keep up on bar.
Anyone have advice?

Put more effort into making nice drinks & working on sequencing than you do on speed. Speed comes with time, but having good form & organization is the foundation for it. Nobody in my store is faster on bar than me, and it’s very much because I practiced the hell out of sequencing and have since adapted to a... personal style of sequencing lol.

how do u sequence ?

Check out the video for it, I just worked at two separate Starbucks stores today and I’m baked - my brain absolutely cannot explain it right now lol. What I do now is a highly efficient abomination of a sequencing routine but I get a lot of bar time so it’s working for me lol.

Master the core drinks and don't be afraid to fail. It's how you learn. Also ask questions.

How often are you working? It took me a while to get into my own rhythm.

Usually 3 days a week as part time while I'm in school. Weekends mostly as well so its hard to learn when we are so busy.

I find a nice blend of slow times and crushingly busy times (we see you, Saturday morning) help you develop both the skills and pace you need to handle it best. I liked to work a full shift on Saturday so I could practice getting slammed and then learn after it calms down (that was around lunch for us).
Considering the breadth of the menu I think three months is still so new. You will get there! Hang in! And good on you for working during school. It’s not easy but it’ll pay off.

Thanks! I've been talking with my SM and ASMs to get more practice in, but they like having me in window since they say I'm good with customers lol

Keep pushing. It may work for them but the bar is really an important skill! You can be great at the window and have the bar lose all that good will!

I was the same way. One of my coworkers told me to not worry about it. Everyone is gonna get their drinks. Just try to focus on the recipes and getting those correct first. Speed comes with time

If you are on window a lot, I would ask whoever is on DTO to let you see any drinks you are having trouble remembering , and making sure you know what goes in them. Setting up your milks for multiple drinks is very helpful, working on one drink at a time is very time consuming. Keeping your cool is vital!! Don’t get too frustrated, remember they are just drinks !!
