So a customer ordered a "white hot chocolate with two shots of espresso"...(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by hhtptai
Did I charge it exactly as he said it? Yes.
Did it end up being more expensive than a grande white chocolate mocha? Yes. (It came out to $6.36 with Colorado taxes.)
Why did I do this? Have you ever attempted to tell a customer a cappuccino with no foam is basically a latte but they insist it's a cappuccino with no foam?
If you said yes, then you know how fucking draining it is dealing with Starbucks customers.

me when a girl confidently ordered her venti iced vanilla latte upside down with caramel drizzle and was mortified when i said “okay, so a caramel macchiato?” because she was clearly trying to show off to her friends. she told me no and insisted on paying a dollar more for the same drink.

LMAO GOTEEM.

I haven't worked at Starbucks in a while, but isn't a carmel macchiato one less pump of vanilla? Genuinely curious if I'm remembering correctly
Kittywizarrr6 points2y ago
You’re right, the vanilla in cm are one less pump than the standard, most likely because the caramel drizzle is already pretty sweet (but honestly some of the Starbucks standard drinks are already too sweet as it is, lol)
lelaluv3 points2y ago
yes! that’s the only difference between the two and i forgot in the moment lol.
CeramicLicker2 points2y ago
I hope not, otherwise I’ve been making it wrong for awhile now
Astraterris12 points2y ago
It’s supposed to be one less pump vanilla but who cares or is gonna notice? No one.
[deleted]40 points2y ago
Lol yea they wana be extra for no reason. I wish people wouldn’t use me to role play what they think being rich is like.
Willowstorm929 points2y ago
Nah. They think it's cheaper and do so without asking first.
Like hehehehehe! I found a new Starbucks hack to get a cheaper drink! Nah boo. You actually spending more.
hhtptai [OP]12 points2y ago
Fucking suckers lmao.
dicksoutforpoppunk32 points2y ago
Ugh, this reminds me of the guy that I had come in and order, and I quote: "A venti steamed almond milk, and can you add two shots of espresso?" He was super pissed when I range him up for a venti almond milk latte. Pulled the "the other Starbucks doesn't charge me for a latte" bullshit.
hhtptai [OP]19 points2y ago
I learned real quick just to do what they say and shame them hard as fuck later.
Willowstorm95 points2y ago
Still more expensive the way he ordered than what you charged him. People are dumb.
Sarahthelizard2 points2y ago
I tell people "We wanna charge you right so you don't pay more."

Some lady ordered an Grande Iced Americano with no water.
I did the math on my register and told her that 3 shots of espresso over ice would be cheaper.
She had the guts to tell me that she did her research and knew what she was talking about.
Alright lady I’m sorry I’m just, ya know, the person who works the register, I guess your source is better than my pos that updates it’s prices instantly, no biggie.

when a customer ordered a caramel macchiato with no caramel drizzle and i said i could ring it up as an upside down vanilla latte and she almost bit my head off (-:
mexicanairlines28 points2y ago
Too many customers have no idea it’s vanilla syrup in caramel macchiatos 🙄
misskatthebrat20 points2y ago
Had a lady today get super pissed when she ordered a carmel macchiato with extra carmel syrup. So I clarified if she wanted to add careml syrup with the vanilla syrup or extra carmel drizzle and she goes "there is no way a carmel macchiato has vanilla syrup!!!!!" Then proceeded to tell me I was a liar even after showing her the recipe card. 😑😬🙄
mexicanairlines2 points2y ago
When I wasn’t in the mood to argue, just charge em extra and add a lil caramel syrup and a lil extra drizzle to cover the bases lol
silurianoverloard11 points2y ago
I’ve seen “upside down vanilla latte” a few times this post. What does it mean when a drink is upside down? Don’t worry, I won’t order it, I just drink black coffee, I’m just genuinely curious.
Jkitt399 points2y ago
Upside down for a latte would mean milk first and then we pour the espresso on top. A macchiato is normally done this way. Nothing wrong with ordering something upside down but in some of these cases there is an easier way to ring it up.
midwestmujer3 points2y ago
Also naive here — but what’s the point/difference of ordering something upside down? Does it change the flavor profile or something?
hhtptai [OP]1 points2y ago
You get blasted with espresso first and then work your way to the milk and syrup.
ttamserrot13 points2y ago
or an upside down caramel macchiato
derllad6 points2y ago
one customer wanted an iced mocha with no milk so i tried to help them and rang up the 6 pumps w/ 3 shots and after they were so incredibly rude to me that every time since coming back i charge them for the venti iced mocha
Willowstorm93 points2y ago
What's the point in saving a few dollars? It makes no sense.
P_2_P2 points2y ago
After working under the sirens spell for so long, I’ve learned not try to argue reason.
LKP951 points2y ago
I will keep fighting them if they argue with me. I want it to be engraved into their brains what I'm saying. "I'm apologize but it is policy" or "you're actually wanting a latte" or "it is cheaper if I ring it up this way". I don't let them walk over me. I understand that most people don't want to argue with customers, but I want to maintain as consistent as possible, so I let them know what is up. Always with a neutral tone.
