I went on to insist drive through customers have to wear masks too and lobbies have to close.
LeBran_James15 58 points 2y ago
Personally I have not been connecting with customers who choose not to mask in the drive thru. But if they do wear a mask I’ll connect with them all day. I prefer people who treat me like I’m people too.
reb678 22 points 2y ago
We had a lady come through my last shift, she had her mask pulled down under her chin. I mean, so close. Damn.
star_pants 20 points 2y ago
I had a lady come in once when we were super slow and she was the only indoor customer. I provided her with a mask and she was like "why? I'm the only person here."

Like damn 1) we're people too and

2) bacteria and virus cling to surfaces long after you're gone
TheOnesLeftBehind 4 points 2y ago
Should have said “we’re people too.” I saw another barista a while ago had said something similar because their store cap was only one at a time (since they had a multi person play which filled the other spots) I think and the customer was a bit upset they were doing it. So the barista responded with that.
star_pants 6 points 2y ago
I just kind of stared at them and gestured to myself and the other baristas until they put on the mask.

The number of people who are outing themselves as terrible with that attitude is alarming but not surprising
hidood101 74 points 2y ago
the fact that starbucks geniunely thought that a dollar more will appease us is fucking laughable.
colonade17 [OP] 29 points 2y ago
It may not appease us. But if we leave then they'll find new hires who think it's a great deal.
hidood101 19 points 2y ago
dont get me wrong, im probably gonna stick with starbucks for a while, that 401k tho
aliennegirl 10 points 2y ago
I ended up with a whopping 50 cents above the increased minimum wage in my state. 🙃
jilessio 1 points 2y ago
the best part for me is I’m a 293 and I didn’t get the pay raise because I’m “too new” 🙃
AggressiveDiamond 18 points 2y ago
And this is why we have 393k deaths so far. All the points you made should have been mandated from day 1, it is now a year later and we are still trying to get people to do what is advised.
conniedew 12 points 2y ago
Bet you don’t win the iPad this month.......

In all seriousness I completely agree with you and hope you get well soon!
GrandpaCody 7 points 2y ago
I did something similar when I got my first customer survey after I quit. I wasn’t as nice as you though
JaketheBean_1 6 points 2y ago
I've actually also know a few Barista's that have been let go because of the lack regulations and then they end up catching Covid. The fear of getting it in the first place and having to protect not only your family but your job as well, people can't afford that.
ih8yogurt 5 points 2y ago
Also disclosure should be allowed. If I get COVID I should be allowed to tell my fellow partners that it was me
colonade17 [OP] 5 points 2y ago
Oh, I shared with my partners once I found out my manager didn't even tell the rest of my team they were exposed to a positive case. I understand that my manager can't say it was me, but to not tell them their level of risk and exposure was just not ethical.

We also have a decent contact tracing program where I live, so every single partner in my store got a phone call within a day of my test result too.
bitter-barista 3 points 2y ago
Where does it say that you can't let them know? Your mgr may not be able to say anything because of HIPPA, but you yourself shouldn't have anything stopping you from sending a text out about yourself.
ih8yogurt 4 points 2y ago
I got yelled at by my sm for telling my fellow partners I was exposed and awaiting results.
bitter-barista 4 points 2y ago
Haha on ethical grounds, I'd tell your SM to go pound sand. Just because they're a mgr, does not mean they are right. And it's your info, you can do with it what you want. They can not like it as much as they want, but they CANNOT fire you for it. So...whatevs

“Causing panic with the other baristas”
anselgrey 5 points 2y ago
This should go for every retail and restaurant!
sstcyr 5 points 2y ago
I have been trying to get these pulse surveys for ages. How do you get them??
Southern-Milk 3 points 2y ago
Sign up on the partner hub
sstcyr 1 points 2y ago
Do I just search surveys?
Kyenne_Pepper123 4 points 2y ago
Two people at my store got covid a week apart from each other
meloscav 3 points 2y ago
We should also go back to mobile only. No inside ordering. And if you come into the damn drive through wear a MASK
ssubrednulb 3 points 2y ago
When I first got this question, I used up every character available to give them a piece of my mind. My reply to this damn question has devolved into a frustratingly short answer now.
hannahanjuna 2 points 2y ago
I wonder if this is something that is going on at all Starbs. My kiddos school had a positive case and she must quarantine for 14 days. My manager gave me the COVID-19 questionnaire and said I’m fine to come in lol
colonade17 [OP] 3 points 2y ago
So clear that the priority is keeping stores open, and not partner health.

I hope you and your kids are safe, but if they got it, by the time they show symptoms you could expose all your partners. That's the insidious thing about this virus, you're contagious before you show symptoms.
hellopie7 1 points 2y ago
Okay first, don't get me wrong. I agree with everything you've posted OP. But in my current position I cannot complain even though I agree and want these changes too. In my county the minimum wage is 13 an hour, when I was hired my starting wage was 14.02. Now since the raise I'm being paid about 15.50. I'm beyond grateful since that was near the wage of my manager at my previous job.
colonade17 [OP] 2 points 2y ago
I guess my point is that it's not worth the money if you die. And it's only a matter of time (if it hasn't already happened) that a partner dies of this virus because they were exposed at work.
bexbux 1 points 2y ago
I would also like to request that customers were a mask in the drive thru too or else we won’t open the window 😐 even if it has to be plastered all over the drive thru. I am tired of no DT customers having one, or the select few that have it on their face but it’s pulled down 🙄
