Customers getting offended because I don't hand them their change directly into their hand(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by chuhai-drinker
There's a pandemic going on so when I'm on POS I prefer to pass the money to them over the counter not only so I can avoid touching their hand but so they can avoid touching mine.
I have had multiple customers get offended over this and tell me it's rude. Why?

Because people are tone deaf apparently. It shocks me how many people seem just fine with touching my hand. I have so many people go to grab their coffee while my hand is still on it... like dude... back off it’s a rude move even before the pandemic and now it’s just ignorant. Or the people who grab the debit machine away from you in DT. I hold it the way I do for a reason... to minimize contact for everyone... take your damn hands off of it.

At the Noah’s bagels I go to they have a little basket for payment specifically so their hands don’t have to touch. Maybe suggest it to your SM?

That's a good idea. I don't know if my store manager would be open to it, but I'll suggest that and see what she thinks.

i understand why you wouldn’t want to touch people’s hands but you’re touching their money anyway, i feel like hand washing & sanitizing profusely would kinda negate having to do this but custies get offended over literally everything regardless. do what u gotta do to feel safe!

I can't believe they told u that was rude! I usually hold the bills right on the end so they're forced to grab the other end or the middle, without touching my hand. For change, I hold my hand about an inch or an inch and a half above theirs and drop it in their hand. When/if they move their hand up, I quickly move mine up higher.
