I made a bad meme about life at the bux(i.redd.it)

I don't work at Starbucks anymore but I cannot tell you in the like relatively short time that I did the number of middle aged or older men who would say something along the lines of "I bet I'm the only person who orders just plain black coffee" like sir we brew it every half hour at the minimum
Lamlot30 points2y ago
I am returning to work there after 12 years I only drink black hot or iced coffee. Can’t a coffee snob drink black coffee?
I also bartend at a craft beer bar. The amount of people who ask for a Budweiser or Bluemoon is also incredible. Lucky we have an American Lager for them. People feel great about shitting on craft anything. I just give them what they want and they seem happy.
sten4523 points2y ago
I always thought a proper coffee snob ONLY drank black (Pour over, French press or Chemex) coffee.
Lamlot13 points2y ago
I’m a total snob, TBH I prefer to buy a local roasted coffee brand to the bux but at some point I will drink gas station coffee because in the end it is just coffee. But when I flex is French press or my new pour over maker with nice water.
sten458 points2y ago
I buy hand selected small batch Sumatra from a nano roster I know personally. It’s the only hipster thing I do. I am a chemex guy, gram scale for the burr ground coffee into a pre heated vessel
DisorderlyHum6 points2y ago
No yeah there's nothing wrong with drinking black coffee I didn't mean to imply that it's just weird how many people think that it's like. Uncommon. In a coffee shop. Is all lol
RekoJeeves4 points2y ago
They can if they keep the amount of times they remind everyone around them that they drink black coffee and not “dessert” down to a minimum of 5 times.
No one would have shit against black coffee drinkers if they weren’t so vocal and if they didn’t treat it like a badge of honor or something that made you cooler than other people. It’s not the coffee itself, it’s the kind of person that brands themselves around their drinking habits that’s irritating. Especially when they act like the barista on POS can’t pour a cup of black coffee from a keg (it’s just pulling a tab) or like it’s this rare unicorn moment in a place that sells coffee.
LazyEggRamen [OP]3 points2y ago
This isn’t mean to shit on people wanting black coffee, it’s because there’s the select customer that shits on baristas for us selling anything but black coffee. I love a good pour over and my go to is a blonde flat white with cinnamon and nutmeg steamed in. I’m happy giving you a pike, but don’t get mad that people get a Frappuccino
imeanitpeanut4 points2y ago
If the sales of brewed coffee were as low as it the people who say that think it would have been discontinued.
flowerandstorm0109 points2y ago
“JUST A BLACK COFFEE” any cream or sugar? “NO CREAM. BLACK” I go to hand it to them “DID YOU PUT IN THE SUGARS” no. Would you like some? “Give me 5 raw sugar *rolls eyes like I should have known that*”
please please please just tell us what you want! I swear your 5 raw sugars has nothing on the regular who wants 20 in their tall pile with extra heavy cream. Don’t get defensive when I ask you what you want in your coffee- I want you to get the drink you want!
moon_light52311 points2y ago
This isn’t the same, but I hate when people order an iced drink but don’t say they want it iced. I’m newer so i tried just going off of what they say but when they say something like “I’ll have a chia tea latte with a pump of vanilla, and light ice” I’ve started to asked them if they want it hot or iced cause it happens too often lol. We also have regulars who get a pike and then want light ice in it to cool it down which can be frustrating 😂
dopecanigetafrosty4 points2y ago
bro literally i will be on dto window and a customer will ask for a black coffee and i’ll say ANY CREAM OR SUGAR FOR YOU TODAY and they’ll be like “no. BLACK COFFEE” and then they’ll get to the window and be like please give me 30 splendas and then they’ll get mad that i’m handing it to them instead of putting it in a bag or something. like who asked you to get all of that damn sugar anyway I could’ve put it in the cup.
mrbubblegxm108 points2y ago
I ONCE HAD A MAN COME IN AN ORDER A CARAMEL PUPPACINO. AND IM LIKE WHAT. HE SAID A CARAMEL PUPPACINO AND YELLEF AND IM LIKE?? TF U MEAN A CARAMEL FRAP? and he’s like oh yes
who tf yells over a caramel frap
LazyEggRamen [OP]14 points2y ago
I had a lady ask for a pupuronie
[deleted]7 points2y ago
At my store a puppaccino was an actual thing, whipped cream in a tiny cup for their dogs. I don’t think dogs are supposed to eat dairy but I obliged anyways.
csaine3 points2y ago
Pup cups are a thing, dogs are not dairy tolerant, I'm sure plenty get diarrhea from all the whip and sugar.

Now draw it with him in an black and blue line American flag neck gaiter that he wears as his "mask" but make him take it off every time he talks...
_dreamsofthedead_16 points2y ago
This is every fucking customer in orange park florida. Some dude came in wearing the cop flag mask (around his neck), confederate flag shirt, and maga hat. He has three small children with him and the poor things are wearing exactly what he is. He then proceeds to recite the bill of rights and threaten to call the cops on the shift manager when she asks him to please put his mask over his face.

i grew up in middleburg 🤮 and this doesn’t surprise me even a little bit
realdognoway37 points2y ago
*waits 4 minutes for his coffee*: miss MISS! It should not take ten minutes to pour a cup of coffee
RunTheWatchOver17 points2y ago
I've been waiting 20 minutes.
buzzy90001 points2y ago
Screaming internally: FFS bitch, there are seven people in front of you in the queue please calm your tits
jdg99653234 points2y ago
Or they fail to tell you they want room and then pour 1/4 of it into the garbage can.
SelocAvrap10 points2y ago
I never had any qualms about telling those people off in front of whoever they were with, like were you born in a barn
L_Swizzlesticks14 points2y ago
“Buckanese!” 🤣🤣

I dont work at starbucks (reddit recommended this sub to me for some reason) but I have to ask-- if someone just asked for a "small black coffee" do you have to correct them to tall/grande/venti? Like is it the company policy or can you just say small/medium/large?
LazyEggRamen [OP]32 points2y ago
Alright so no we don’t have to correct you. I went to a Disneyland Starbucks and am a two year partner but made the mistake of saying medium. This boy grabbed all of our cup sizes and told me their names. It was awkward when I said I was a partner. I’d rather you say small medium large than tall and mean a venti
Silly_Goose27 points2y ago
Really?! Clarifing is one thing (especially in cafe stores so you know what it will be called as) but wow. I'd be seriously tempted to log into My Learning right there and find the slide that says explicitly not to do that.
LazyEggRamen [OP]5 points2y ago
It was soooo awkward Like alright my guy, you take your job way too seriously and I thought people like you weren’t real
moon_light5233 points2y ago
I honestly don’t understand people like that...I’ve had customers get really confused cause of the cup sizes, and I’ll just tell them it’s ok to say small medium or large, and that we will know what they mean.
I feel like that would just go against making customer connections 😂
1b1rd21 points2y ago
I always say to customers that apologize for saying small, medium, or large, "Miss/Sir, if someone at Starbucks corrects you on that, they are, in fact, an asshole. Did you need anything else today?"
crunchycookie2816 points2y ago
No we don’t but we usually repeat it out loud as tall in example because that’s how we ring it up in the register. It’s kind of like a reflex I guess to make sure we don’t put it in wrong
star_pants11 points2y ago
I'll usually joke that I also understand English when people stumble over the sizes, however it's pretty automatic for me to say tall/grande/venti/trenta when repeating an order back. Or the bar person will probably call it out as tall/grande/venti/trenta when it's ready because they had nothing to do with the register.
LazyEggRamen [OP]10 points2y ago
Basically if someone tells you “so it’s actually a grande” they’re an asshole or take their job way too seriously
frenchfrygirll7 points2y ago
I definitely wouldn't correct you. But when I am repeating back your order to you, I'll say grande instead of medium (or I'll say both). Only so that you're not confused when the person on bar making your drink says Grande. You know what to listen out for, if that makes sense.
poopsh0t3 points2y ago
I’m in the same boat as you. Had this sub recommended by Reddit as well. Stuck around because I like the content. I d always wondered this too. I some times out of reflex will say medium and wonder if the person working thinks I’m a jackass.
moon_light5234 points2y ago
Na you’re fine. I’ve told customers before that if it’s easier to do small/medium/large that they should just do that because we’ll understand what they mean.
The only time I ever tell someone what the drink sizes are is when they ask me what the sizes are or something along those lines
buzzy90001 points2y ago
No, but if someone goes with the classic "small, medium, whatever" I'll hold up the tall and grande cups because people seem to want the other one of whichever one I lift and start writing on.
heyykaycee1 points2y ago
I wonder this too. I’ve only had Starbucks twice and both times it was nasty, but that may be because I don’t know how to order their drinks lol. I usually go to dunkin
LazyEggRamen [OP]1 points2y ago
See I don’t like dunkin because it’s too sweet for me and I can’t taste the coffee. I do love their donuts though! Starbucks is all about knowing what you like and hopefully having a barista that will help you find it. My first Starbucks experience was in middle school when I ordered a vanilla iced coffee expecting a vanilla iced latte. They asked if I wanted cream and I said no because I wasn’t sure what that meant. I got black iced coffee and vanilla and it tasted like cough syrup. Only took me another five or so years to try it out again and learn to love it.
subaruforesters9 points2y ago
There's one regular at my store who's exactly like this and he always ends his order (LARGE. BLACK. COFFEE) with "I DON'T need a stopper and I DON'T need a sleeve so don't give me one" as if stoppers and sleeves are for snowflakes too
Tlw919 points2y ago
Ugh I'd ratber deal with the grumpy old guy than having to make tik-tok based drinks all day
LazyEggRamen [OP]4 points2y ago
Same though
Tlw913 points2y ago
Glad im not the only one
dopecanigetafrosty1 points2y ago
venti iced white mocha with vanilla sweet cream cold foam and extra caramel drizzle 😐
Tlw912 points2y ago
That and now people trying to.order sweet cream foam in hot drinks, also drinks with vanilla bean powder in it. It just honestly throws the flow off.

Frappayeho😂
goomy-toons5 points2y ago
Had a guy come through the drive through angrily half shouting the order, insulted the person taking the order when they tried to clarify that the two venti chai lattes were hot, and then at the end said “I’ll bet you a million dollars you didn’t get it right.” When he rolled up to the window he said he ordered the chai lattes cold. Dudes life is undoubtedly miserable with only himself to blame
moon_light5232 points2y ago
Ngl, when working drive through, I’ve said to people before “I’m so sorry but I cannot understand what you’re saying. Would you mind repeating what you just said” which makes some of my coworkers giggle but I could care less, I’d rather get their order right than barely understand them lol.
People like that are the worst tho, because they expect for the order to be wrong cause they don’t say it right
csaine4 points2y ago
After all the tiktok drinks, I'm glad when someone comes wanting a black coffee, ngl
bryceofswadia4 points2y ago
This somewhat reminds me of a guy who came in with a mask that had a picture of Ronald Reagan on it that said something along the lines of “Hippies Suck” and I expected him to order some nasty black pike or something and the man starts ordering a complex caramel macchiato drink and got the size names right. I was thinking “Sir, this is a Starbucks”.
Push-puss-plush3 points2y ago
I feel a bit guilty walking into Starbucks the first time and ordering a medium black coffee. I had no idea there was like a multitude of brews and options and felt a little overwhelmed. Coffee was lovely though.
LazyEggRamen [OP]3 points2y ago
On the upside(?) after about 12:00 the only brew is our medium roast. However, I think our Pike tastes terrible and would recommend getting whatever our rotating dark roast or blonde is in the morning if you come for a drip. Also never be afraid to ask for a pour over if we only have medium brewing, but please don’t ask for one in the drive through because it takes a hot sec depending on size and can hold the line up.
LazyEggRamen [OP]3 points2y ago
Thanks for the silver kind stranger! Here’s a gold 🏅
