Strangest Starbucks Story? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by joewhite3d
I used to work for The Company back in the late 90’s.

They suddenly decided to implement this thing called “slide deployment” which meant you had to say “Slide (your destination)” every time you made a move. Ringing someone up? “Slide Register”. Making a drink? “Slide Bar”. Taking a dump? “Slide Bathroom.”

We worked at a rather remote location in a blue collar Massachusetts suburb and eventually we all rebelled and stopped doing it. Corporate eventually gave up on it, and I don’t think we ever spoke of it again.

I suppose this is where the ‘cafe slide’ term came from. Which would just be cafe check, which we never ever do anymore because, labor.

I don't know if strange is the right word, but who remembers cup management? That was interesting. And would be totally impossible now. Marking cups was resisted kind of a lot at first.

Ha! Yeah, no. I think I can safely say that the entire Chicago market flat-out refused.

Oh my god this is hilarious... At a busy drive through with nine people on the floor I'm imagining how horrible and stupid this would be.... Lol Starbucks corporate sure comes up with some wacky shit back then and even now.
