Opening shift tips/tricks for a green bean (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by coffeeracc
hey guys 🥺 so I’m about a month old green bean and I had my first opening shift this morning. I was the only barista besides my SM and it took me roughly an hour to get all the food done. I have the same schedule for a few more days and I’m honestly super worried and stressed because I knowwww it’s not supposed to take that long but I can’t seem to figure out a way to make it quicker :’))) my sm didn’t seem upset, I just felt really bad because I knew he had to get this weeks order in within 30 minutes of me finishing. any suggestions/ tips?

You will get quicker every day. Get the oven on first, pull out one of each sandwich and leave them right there. Grab one each pastry and toss into pastry case vaguely near where they go (still in the package). Grab your tablet and pull up that sirens eye. That should bring you right to the ovens being hot. If not, do any other stuff the barista at your store does. Then start cooking sandos and setting up your case.

Every time you do it I promise you'll get faster. The beginning is the hardest part ❤️

I think where I messed up is I did all the pastries b e f o r e warming the sandwiches. 🥲I’m just gonna blame my half dead morning brain on allergy season. I’m definitely using your suggestion tomorrow though! Thank you so much!

Venti nitro as soon as I get through the door. By the time pike is brewed and I'm icing the teas I've almost woken up

I hate the shift makes you do the food for opening. I usually started running tabs and brewing iced coffee and teas first so I could do other things while those were going

What do you have to do to open your store?

Normally it’s rtd&e, pastry case, sandwiches/ pastry cart restock, preps for the day, tills, ovens, and getting the bar ready! I might be missing a few things, I’m not sure 🙈
