Good job? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by H0ll0wHag
Hey!
I apologize for any formatting errors, I’m on my phone.
I have a simple question. And that is; is Starbucks generally a good place to work?
I’m moving in February to start school. My husband makes enough money to sustain us, but I still want to work before and during school.
Is Starbucks accommodating with schedules? I’m a banker now and I really hate the profession, so I’m not looking to continue that.

Thanks for any info you can provide about your experience!

In general it’s a good job and they take care of their baristas. A lot depends on the customers and your coworkers, which is different depending on the store.

If you don’t need the money, the perks of free coffee, discounts, a weekly coffee bean mark out, are probably worth it since you get all of those no matter how few hours you work.

so far as a part time college student, it’s been good, the shifts aren’t excruciatingly long, so i have time/energy to study and do school work on days i also have work. if you maintain 20 hours a week, you get health, vision, and dental insurance after a few months. it’s got pretty good benefits. the work is fast paced and can be tiring but overall it’s been much better than any other part time job in terms of benefits, flexibility, and hours.

Were they good in terms of weekends? My husband works 9-5 and we usually spend the weekend together. I’d hate to spend my entire weekend working.

I am no longer employed at Starbucks, but my district manager required all of her store managers hire people with some form of weekend availability

No retail place that is open in weekends, wants to hire someone who isn't available on weekends.

I completely understand that. I’m just saying I wouldn’t want to work all weekend, every weekend.

It could be fine, or you could get a manager who says, "Oh sure, I can work with that." And then they don't. Just letting you know that it could be an issue.

that’s gonna depend more on your manager. mine can us usually give weekends off when people need it but try to have a viable excuse like church or something.

Yes! Especially since you won’t be depending on it as a main source of income. It’s hard to enjoy a job if you can’t make rent with it. I love my co workers and the environment is great - I think Starbucks attracts a certain type of person (which is usually a good person lol) the benefits are pretty great too especially compared to most other minimum wage jobs.
