Had a person mobile order a hot caramel macchiato upside down. I literally made it upside down by putting vanilla, caramel drizzle, shots, milk, and then ice. She got upset because she said it should be stirred and that other baristas had told her to mobile order a caramel macchiato as upside down so she can receive it stirred (since mobile doesn’t have that option). So is that what the deal is? I gotta make these caramel macchiatos stirred if it says upside down? I had to remake her drink and it backed me up and it was just stressful since I’m still new on bar. And let’s say someone comes in and picks up their mobile order and says they want it stirred now, do I *have* to remake it? Or can I just mix it around by using another empty cup?

I was trained that upside down means upside down! you did it right by my book. Tiktok has videos calling upside down the stirred version, which may be what she was referring to? as for the cup thing, if it’s not melted and the quality is still there I’ll just put it in a new cup. But if it is already an issue it might’ve been best to remake it. Use your judgment!

I would personally interpret that as them wanting it as a vanilla latte with one less pump and drizzle on top. It’s totally confusing, and hard to work with people when they aren’t there for you to ask themand things are pretty up to interpretation. Hope your day got/gets a little better!

This is what I've always done too.
If I get a mobile order that can legitimately be interpreted in multiple ways that would be a really different outcome, I just set the stickered empty cup on the hand off plane so that I can ask them and make it how they describe.
That's not what I would have done with an upside down caramel macchiato. In that case, I make them an upside down caramel macchiato. If they have demands afterward, whatever, I'll fix it. As you get faster on bar, it will become less of a big deal to remake one.

So in most cases, you are absolutely correct, but customers are weird about caramel macchiatos, and what they usually actually mean is they want the shot in the bottom of the cup with the syrup, and the rest built like normal
