This is a good idea, but maybe not for an entry level retail sales position! I'll get to why that is in a second, but I wanted to start off with that. Managers are quite busy though, so you may be better of emailing the manager and giving them time to respond, if they can. This can help shape how you approach interviews in the future, as well as help you move forward career-wise.
As to why you likely weren't hired - with it being entry level, they literally hire 16 year olds with no experience, you know? The biggest thing management bases hiring on is availability. What does your availability look like? Some stores target specific day parts, like only looking for openers. Others want people with completely open availability, which I've found to be the most frequent request. At Starbucks, you are always considered part time unless you're an assistant manager, or a store manager. Otherwise your hours are never guaranteed and can fluctuate.
Another thing they look for is customer service. If you were standoffish or hard to communicate with, not enthusiastic, etc. they may stray from hiring because they want people who can perpetuate the Disney-level of happiness in stores. You said you talked and laughed and it was fine, so I'm sure you were fine there!
My money is either on availability, or they prioritised a transfer/someone with Starbucks/barista history. It sounds silly, but that's sometimes just how it goes! I'm sorry you didn't get in.
Fortunately Starbucks is **always** hiring, so I would honestly say give it some time and reapply in a couple months, or just keep trying at other stores if you have a lot local to you!
