Covid-19/Antibody Question (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by throw-it-away-rn
Throwaway account just in case, but I tested positive for covid-19 on 1/3 and have since recovered. I’ve worked a full week back at work and had to call off this morning because I had a migraine (I get them every so often). My manager is telling me I have to self-isolate for 10 days because headaches are consistent with covid. After telling him I can’t get it again right now because I have the antibodies (per the CDC), he said “hmm...I don’t think so” and is still requiring me to isolate. However, they’re not paying me for this time because I’ve used the two weeks of catastrophe pay for when I was actually sick.

Additionally, there have been a number of other partners at my store who have called off for various reasons including headache, sore throat, fever, and cough. Almost all partners have returned to work within 24 hours of calling in. My shift supervisor is constantly complaining of her migraines and is consistently clearing her throat and coughing (and she walks in every morning without her mask on). My manager’s messaging about covid and how we handle it is so convoluted and is never consistent, but he gets defensive when anyone tries to challenge him on anything.

Is there anything in the covid-19 handbook or the covid coach that addresses antibodies? Or, does anyone have experience with something like this? I cannot afford to be on leave for 10 days without pay.

Call about it but you should get two covid isolations that they will pay you for. Did you follow the covid coach?

I am just returning from my 10 days after testing positive. From what my manger has told me it is the current policy to make us isolate again if we have any symptoms even if it’s just a cold or something and we have already had covid.

you can use sick days maybe?

Per the $1:

> Whether you test positive or negative for COVID-19 on a viral or an antibody test, you still should take steps to protect yourself and others.

> We do not know how much protection (immunity) antibodies to the virus might provide against getting infected again. Confirmed and suspected cases of reinfection have been reported, but remain rare. Scientists are working to understand this.

So your manager is correct that having antibodies does not make you absolutely immune to contracting COVID a second time. If this is the second time you’re being required to self-isolate, you should be paid for the shifts you have scheduled.

Otherwise you can reach out PRC to see what the requirements are for returning to work early.
