Transferring to different state (self.starbucksbaristas)

Wondering what the process was like if you have transferred to a different store out of state? Did your manager & DM help you? 🙂

I transferred from Virginia to Florida. My manager gave me no help whatsoever and I had to basically do all the footwork. You’ll have to figure out what store you’d be wanting to work out, if your managers helpful just let them know and have the location as well as call and asked to speak to the manager at that location and make sure they have room for you to transfer. You have to get your transfer approved and normally you don’t get it denied going out you get it denied going in.

How long did the process take you after you let your manager know about the store you wanted to transfer to?

I did it about 2 months before I moved but I left myself a few weeks to move and settle in

Hi i just transferred from missouri to colorado. first call around stores and ask them if they can take you and they’ll ask how many hours you’re looking for. I realized in colorado covid restrictions are a lot stricter so i’m getting about half the hours i would in missouri. once i found a store to take me after calling a few, i told my manager. make sure to tell your manager 1-2 months in advance and they will help you tremendously. one important thing is to have all of your virtual training completely caught up and it’s really smooth i start there next week and i’m super excited! good luck to you!

My manager did transfer me from Los Angeles to Chicago. The SM I had in LA was really passionate about leading well and was able to find my new store in about half an hour of my telling her I needed it. I should clarify though that she said it’s a good idea to start that process at least 1 month in advance.

My new SM in IL, however, made it clear she and my DM would stonewall any attempt I made to transfer when she didn’t like my new availability. So, YMMV. I’ve learned your experience as a barista really heavily depends on the quality of the people 2-3 rungs up the ladder from you.
