hey y’all :) I’m a new barista and a bit confused ab all these posts. I was terrified to start working bc of all the Reddit strands but I’m a week or two in and had an awesome trainer and the best team/partners. everyone’s very sweet to each other and understanding. i messed up and asked lots of questions (especially with memorizing the Register) and nobody ever got mad at me ab it. the worst experiences I’ve had were customer complaints and we fixed em pretty quickly and nothing too bad happened. did I get lucky w my fellow partners and trainer or are these posts ab just a few bad trainers/partners?

Yes! Also I woukd say alot of these post are from older partners who have been here for awhile. I personally enjoy the work, and my partners make it wonderful! I have a great SM and just work in a good enviorment.

Honestly it’s all depended upon the management, some have really shity and toxic managers/partners. When you get a supportive group you will be successful. I was an outside hire SSV and I was welcome in full support.

I would say even the same store can differ on a week by week basis quite a lot. Like in general December is a far more stressful month to work than January. Customers and baristas might be in a much better mood now than when it’s more stressful and busy or understaffed.

But yeah I’ve been to quite a few stores and the difference between the worst one and the best one is absolutely night and day. The ones in between that have issues have some very very different issues from one another. No two stores are alike.

But in general some stores have issues or even customers that create more stress for the partners and some managers are better at hiring than others. Any infliction of stress will build on the last creating very different environments.

If you found a good store cherish it. It’s really nice when it happens and there’s no guarantee that it’ll stay nice. Not to scare you or anything. Store managers can come and go and sometimes even the best ones can accidentally hire a few toxic partners. DMs are important too.

Not that you should hate this company. Feel how you feel. Just understand that posts here come with a lot of nuance that isn’t communicated due to a lack of space for essays worth of context.

I love working at Starbucks, it’s awesome! My trainer was my store manager and the team is great. It’s not all bad, I think some people just come here to vent :)
